Thank you Piratis. I got the answer on line 5. No need to waste "ink" on further explanations as you need it for your other antagonists. Do you think that we have the time to read all of your 6583 posts. Its easier to ask for a repeat as it is your hobby. Thanks again

Is there a consensus of opinion amongst our fellow Cypriots as to the aims of EOKA? Was it for independence or union with Greece or both perhaps?
I have answered this question 100 times denizaksulu.

I will repeat it since thats what you want.

At the time of the original EOKA no island in the Mediterranean was independent states.

What EOKA fought for was liberation from colonialism, and at that time liberation was synonymous with union with Greece, just like it happened to all the other Hellenic territories that were liberated.

The option of independence did not exist, firstly because it was not offered, and secondly because it was clear that a small Cyprus would never be allowed to be truly independent anyways (as it proved to be the case later on).

So the answer to you question is that EOKA fought for liberation and union with Greece, not independence.

And fighting for union with Greece, although I understand why some did not want it, was nothing wrong or illegal. In fact the UN resolution about decolonization defines "free association with an independent State, integration into an independent State, or independence as the three legitimate options of full self-government."
http://www.un.org/Depts/dpi/decolonizat ... ration.htm

We fought against the British colonialist for liberation and our rights. The conflict with TCs started only when TCs collaborated with the British Colonialists (and later with Turkey) to violate our rights and gain on our loss.

Therefore I repeat I understand why TCs didn't want union of Cyprus with Greece, however it is the TC books and propaganda that present our fight for liberation as something wrong and criminal, while in fact it was just and perfectly legitimate. It is also the Turkish propaganda who is trying to blame exclusively the GCs for the conflict of that time, overlooking the fact that TCs were collaborating with the colonialist to fight against us. (and the fact that the first major incidents of intercommunal conflict of that time were started by TCs)
Somebody will surely explain how "Liberation" is synonymous with "Union with Greece". I know the word "synonymous" is greek, but obviously it means something different in translation!!!!. Very Byzantine.

Liberation i.e freedom of choice. The majority of the Cypriot community wanted to choose their political destiny and unite Cyprus with the Greek state, like the other culturally Greek islands, which freed themselves of colonial rule like Cyprus, did in previous years.

...and i want to know why any Greek Cypriot would want to meet Halil for a drink when he continues to post Turkish propaganda and lies like he did in this thread. How can you have dialogue with such a one track minded liar????

If you have a difference of opinion with someone, does that mean you have to call them a liar. There are ocasions when I disagree with posts on the forum yet I respect others' opinions and refrain from using the word liar. I agree using the word "liar" is nothing in comparison with other niceties flying around. I do however notice that very patriotic posts are delivered in a very polite manner. We should all try it. Whats wrong with having a drink with Halil. "You should know your "enemy"". What better way of doing just that by sharing a drink together. Others have. I have (I dont call them enemies though).

Why is it ok to talk with Halil in here but not in person? I don't see a difference.

I would not want to meet up for a drink with a person who spreads lies in order to, in someway or another, 'legitimise' the theft of my family's ancestrol home and murder of innocent family members - ontop of all the other attrocities carried out in the north. I can accept some Greek Cypriots, like Turkish Cypriots, were defently not innocent over the last 5 decades or so - but this guy seems to be a Turkish propaganda machine.

Like Zan, someone who intentinally spreads lies and deceit for the good of their ultra-nationalist gain, regardless of the pain they inflict, can only be SCUM.

Halil was actually a very pleasant character and gave us some valuable information. For example, did you know that HellasSat have subscribed bandwidth to Bayrak? I don't ever recall reading that in the papers do you?

We're definitely going for Souvla soon only this time Halil will be treated to Scotch instead of beer!
