I rent a 3 bedroom unfurnished house (with garden, 3 car parking) in central Paphos for £250.
If you go through this very commercial property agents, they will rip you off. I think you can get a decent place for around the £300 mark. You can furnish the place with around 2K.
My wife is a graphic designer, she works part time (mornings only) and gets £380 PM, but she has little knowledge of Greek as well as most work will be in both Greek and English.
There is pleanty of bar work available but it's seasonal.
It's a big move you are looking at. Good luck.

Sorry to be blunt but your daughter will not be able to claim any kind of benefits from Cyprus until she has work a year and paid social insurance. Child maintenance is very low here, you need to present all documents but also, this is paid by your social insurance occurred whilst in Cyprus.

Basically, you can not claim anything until you have paid something.

Rent can be any where from 250 – 500 for a 4 bedroom apartment, it’s cheaper down there than in Nicosia but you will need to search long and hard. Agents will come up with something but at a good value.

Try www.angloinfo.com Cyprus for private rentals

Hi

Try www.forsalecyprus.com this is for owners to advertise properties direct in all areas.

There are usually a number ads for graphic designers in the Cyprus Weekly and the job section attached to Cyprus Net. The salaries for a junior designer are around £400 per month up to around £800 for a senior. Compare this with £15,000 per year that I paid new junior designers.

Good luck, it's still worth a go surely!

I am one of many people like yourselves that sold up and move to Cyprus for a better life, sick of the way my own country was going and not expecting any handouts etc in Cyprus. We bought our apartment(with hindsight we should have rented)so were rent free and with savings of Cy£25k we thought we would have no problems. How wrong we were!My husband who is 58 has a clean hgv and psv license and was told prior to coming that there would be no problem getting work. I at 60 was getting my pension of £84 per week so that would feed us.We shipped our car over(wish we had,nt) so it was ideal but hellishly expensive on road tax and never did get the duty free paperwork from Nicosia to register it onto Cyprus plates(that would have been another CY£1800 to do that). To cut a very long and sad story short, after 9 months,we had no job, half our money was gone, and all the promises made by the developer, agents etc came to nothing. Our health suffered and we could not get medical insurance for our existing illnesses(hubby had had a quad bypass 2 years earlier) so the general hospital doctor for pills were needed and that could take days to get to and see and then often they did.nt have them in stock. We had to buy fron chemist at CY£60 per month. With great regret we have returned to the uk where my husband got his old job back and we have security regards our health.
With your savings being in cyprus £ only about 37k it wont last you long for 4 of you.Rental is hit and miss, you could get a good one but then you do'nt have security of tenure either. You would need a car and they are expensive and medical insurance is a must, for a family probably about CY£1800 a year plus.
On the positive side,we loved Cyprus and it's people(not the developers etc) and enjoyed the time we had there. If we had plenty of money we would go back but that will never be the case so we will sell our apartment and buy a little property in UK and have holidays when we can back to see our friends and neighbours.
Think very carefully and if you can afford to lose your savings, then go out and try it,we do'nt regret trying but it has been an expensive experience!

!

I find that the owners do tend to be a bit optimistic with their prices on this site. The same proprties have often been seen later on other sites at a more realistic price.

Electricity and Water charges are high especially this time of year ..your ac's will work overtime...you must allow approx Cy£60 - 90 pm electricity and around 40 - 60 pm for water especially if you have a meter. If the bills are not paid on time you will be disconnected. Have a look on line at the Cyprus Weekly...it will give you an idea of rents in the different areas. Limassol is probably a better place to start. You can rent furnished an unfurnished...flats are a better bet. With a villa you run the risk of the landlord wanting it back at the drop of a hat for various reasons and it will not be worth the hassle to try and fight it. Good Luck...

You could look at ForSaleCyprus.com but to be honest, I've noticed the rental prices are creeping up on there, particularly for Kolossi and Erimi location. However, if you compare those prices to the ones you see on BuySell it will give you an idea of what you can get for your money....

A few others KaimarConsulting http://www.kaimarconsulting.com/ (contact them directly for rentals as may not have them displayed on their site) , also Superior Real Estate http://www.superiorrealestatecyprus.com -InRealityCyprus http://www.inrealtycy.com/properties/AL ... RTIES.html - Limassol based and PropertyShopCyprus http://propertyshopcyprus.com/cgi-bin/p ... ion=rental

Hope these help - but bear in mind that rentals can sometimes move very quickly and not all agents list them because of this.

We found ours by telephoning those we found in the Cyprus Weekly newspaper (comes out every Friday) and you do get private landlords advertising their properties here. Just keep an eye open for the same phone number keep appearing then you know you are dealing with an agent - or, they ask "which one" when you telephone to enquire. Remember - if you rent through an agent, they will receive 1 months cost of the rent as commission from the owner/landlord so you will be paying a slightly higher amount in rental to cover cost of the commission payment from the landlord. You can also ask them to reduce the rental amount - just because that's the price they quote, it doesn't necessarily mean it's fixed :-) You may be able to get around £10 to £20pm off the asking price.....

I came over for a weeks holiday, 2 months before we planned to move permanently. Stayed in a holiday apartment and hired a car and found our house within 3 days of looking. You will need to pay as a rule - 2 months rent in advance but you can also negotiate the cost if you are willing to pay more in advance.

Good luck

its not your grandson thats going to be in a bad situation but your daughters. esp the 20 year old one. that just sounds like the worse age for such a dramatic environment change. they will however get used to it after a while. the grandson is lucky to be moving at such a young age. i've heard of tons and tons of kids from newborns to 8 year olds coming here and have no problem whatsoever.

45k isnt all that bad if you're renting. i live in limassol and my gf's dad rents the lower floor of their house (3 bed i think) for 250 a month, and with the location being almost city center and very close to a school and parks is a steal. i'm sure you can find good deals around, and i agree that limassol may be a better bet to find jobs

i suggest you go to cy for a week on vacation and call around during the afternoons. you can get the local ad paper (in english) and find your self a nice place to rent
