US EMBASSY EMPLOYEE IS MISSING FOR 3 DAYS

Postby halil » Mon Jul 02, 2007 9:16 am

It has been reported that an employee from the US Embassy in Cyprus has been missing for 3 days.

According to the US Embassy in Lefkosa(Nicosia), Thomas Mooney was working as a military attache both in South and North Cyprus.

The Embassy asked for people with infomation about Mr Mooney to come forward and contact the nearest police station.

The Embassy announced that Mr Mooney was using a Iblack Chervolet impala SS with a plate number of 48 CD 47.

halil, this matter was brought up yesterday and it would appear that there is no information available at the present time, I do wonder if we are about to receive the news that Lt Col Thomas Mooney has defected, he is apparently of Irish descent and would therefore be well aquainted with the under-handedness of government policies.

His sudden disappearance is bound to attract speculation and consternation in high places, the outcome will be most interesting I am sure.

I wonder how much disaffection exists among the troops of both the U.S.A. and the U.K. when those young men have to witness the horrors their presence in an unlawful and murderous attack on an innocent people creates.

Look at some of the information available on the internet regarding the casualty figures (on both sides) and ask yourselves the simple question,"how can it be justified".

AN EMAIL I RECEIVED TODAY

Dear friends, fellow students and family instructors from around the world – this email goes out to everyone from US embassy staff, local police and instructors and friends around the world as well as senior students etc

As confirmed recently on the news in Cyprus, the U.S defence attaché for the U.S embassy in Nicosia, Cyprus was found dead, this man was a friend and student of My Larnaca School. Rather than discuss his disappearance and other circumstances to his death , I will like to pay my respects to a man I had the honour of meeting and receiving as a student from December to April this year.

Today, I have inundated with sms messages and calls from students who trained with and met Tom during this period, even local kiosk owners who sold Tom water , remember him and recognised him from television images came over to share their thoughts and sadness at this news. Most messages came over to the school today whilst I was training and teaching to be honest I have been really surprised and honoured with the response from the community both in the search for him over the weekend and their messages today, truly I am stunned and I want to thank you all and say how honoured I am to be your friend and teacher .

It is because of this, that I thought I should write to tell some of you other friends about this man and his effect on the local neighbourhood, they say Americans are huge guys ,Tom was a tall American with great humour ,well timed wit and so polite he left the locals here stunned with this sad news it also seems his huge American car ,whom he was really proud of had a lasting effect on us all as well as his American humour as everyone today has brought up so great stories about Tom during his time training with us.

Well, Tom travelled down from Nicosia to train with us on Monday nights (80 kms per session )with his friends and practice Ju Jitsu and self defence; he travelled down some other great people who made my classes more international and fun for all of us. Tom often made a few jokes and comments to make us smile before the class and after and always showed huge respect and friendship to all students who trained with us on those evenings .many a time he was partnered with local students and did his best to communicate in some of the local dialect.

Tom made no complaint regardless of the drills requested of him and trained along side other Greek Cypriot and English Cypriot students many of them young and full of energy and he had good banter with all of them ,, my classes are very cardio intense ,yet tom kept up with everything requested of young fit athletes (some of whom were ex Cypriot army commandos )with no complaint ,if we all did 400 sit ups and 100 press ups he did the same , much to the surprise of Several students who mentioned how surprised they were to see a 40+ year old man keep up them ,.when they discovered he was ex military one remarked how he wished his own colonel /major during his national service , who he served under could do the same and how much he respected Tom for standing next him and performed ,trained and sweated like all students with 100% effort through out the two hours of training each lesson .

Tom trained really hard and took a lot of pride every lesson to tell me how hard he was working up a sweat and never failed to give me feedback negative or positive to my art.

I also feel that he gave me the confidence along with some of his friends to begin teaching my close quarter combat concepts to the U.N guys in Nicosia, therefore I feel that I should honour his passing according to “kwoon elder passing “ traditions .

I also advise you of the following as per Greek/western and Chinese kwoon hall tradition. THE SCHOOL Will mourn the passing of our brother and therefore

All lessons for the next 10 days will begin with a 3 minute silence ,all festivities are off for 10 days including the schools 1 year party this week coming .
I will place a photo of the student and a print by the entrance ideally east facing to remind students, who and why we mourn.
The school will be accepting flowers etc which I will be taking up the U.S embassy and a card of condolences.
With permission I will create a page for tom on our new website and give him honorary title
On Sunday coming the local church will have Greek traditional memorial paid for by me and Chinese traditional memorial sending of ,of the soul
I will follow Chinese 10 day of “mourning for the dead “ activities at the school and my home
I ask that all students to be aware and understand this.

In closing, I would like to say this

Cyprus is a small place ,I have met many people from around the world ,but here in Cyprus I finally really met a military man ,whom I could respect, indeed for most locals Tom was the first American they have met and the first US military man they have met , Tom was very special for me and my students and local neighbours ,today has been strange, to receive so many messages of condolences from so many people for a man they met very briefly .it is testament to his personality and politness/charcter that this has been the case .Every person regardless of nationality has pointed out how polite and nice Tom was .. And I must say I have been moved by the expressions of sorrow from students who remember him; I only wish he was alive to know this.

I would to ask that we all remember Tom in our prayers and ask god to bless him and his family during this time.

Tom, I will never forget you brother, it was an honour to meet you, sir, good bless you

Your friend and Sensei /Sifu Michalis Polydorou
