My Sunday Drive & Souskiou (pics)

Postby kafenes » Mon Jul 02, 2007 1:22 am

Feeling the urge to drive a little off-road, decided to drive to Souskiou as I don't have any pics of that village in my archives. In previous posts I had the inpression that the population of Souskiou was less then Istinjo but the village looks ten times bigger. It must have been a rich village situated by the river.

The date on this water tap was 1956

The mosque at Souskiou.

On my way there I went past Ayios Yiorgios and saw this old coffee shop there. Note the faded Bel-Cola sign. :)

Wanted to go on to Yerovasa but the heat and time didn't allow. Maybe next trip.

kafenes thanks for the pics again. Did you get any figs that "sikia" looks great. Is there anyone iving in the village, I saw truck and what looks like clothes hanging to dry?

This is such a shame to see these village whither away. The Roc ought to rebuild them and invite the original owners back

That would be a gesture of good will and respect.

There is a very big goat farm, the shepherd seems to live there. It really is beyond repair. The only thing which has been looked after is the mosque. I stood at the top of the hill and looked down on the village and imagined it 50 years ago, how lively beautiful it would have been.
