freedom of expression

Postby rajput49 » Sun Jul 01, 2007 11:18 am

freedom of speech seems serious issue right now at this forum.there seems to be an attempt by members and admin to ban one particular member just because of his expression of his views about some issues.if same freedom of expression is being done by salman rush-die its honoured but if some other person expresess himself ehich is not even provocative or infact attempt to close the bridges is being treated on hostile basis.i strongly object to the behaviour of admin and some of the members for trying to limit the freedom of expression.if no one objected to vulgar jokes written in this section why someone will object to thoughts which makes u think rather than take u away from reality.

You open your big mouth and put your foot in it, don't you?

Nobody here wants to ban anybody. All we want to do is to ensure that religious bigots express themselves in a board confined to religious discussion and not General Chat.

If you look at the thread http://www.cyprus-forum.com/viewtopic.php?t=11954, you will see that this is the wish of a majority of members, so what the hell are you talking about?

If this new board came about, and you continued to proselytise your pseudo-religious claptrap on this one, then I'm sure you will be warned to do so only on the ad hoc religious board. If you continued to breach the forum rules, then you could be banned. This would not be a restriction of the freedom of speech but your own choice of flouting the rules.

I think that the majority of people here feel that there should a proper place for religious discussions, I feel that the term General Chat is being missused.
It is time that the administrators took a hand in this, when I joined quite recently I found this forum particularly helpful regarding our pending move to Cyprus.
I don't think that ignoring these people will solve the problem.

mr devil reality on the ground is very different our one member has already received mail from the admin as a warning for posting religious stuff.if u have any doubts about this contact the admin.now tell me what message we take from this that we will be forced out of the forum just because few ppl dont like what we say even if that is no offence to anyone one.all our posts are not specifically targeted to any individual member or any specific belief.we believe in universality of islam.if ppl wants to cricticise islam they are most welcome but right now what is happening that ppl are taking few individual acts and they are cricising whole religion.i realy doubt how many ppl have true knowledge of islam as compare to what we have about christianity for example.first undersatnd the religion and then comment plz.

I'll take you to task. There is a wide difference between a sensible religious debate and inflammatory bigotry. Unfortunately, the only "religious" threads I have looked at here have borne no relation to either the Qur'an or the Bible, to the teachings of Mohammed or of Jesus (as far as either are known with any accuracy). Instead they have shown only crass ignorance and fanaticism.

I have no desire that anyone's freedom of speech be restricted, no matter how much rubbish they utter, but neither have I any desire to see a perfectly good board wasted by the stupidity of those, like yourself, putting a pseudo-religious diatribe for every other thread. You may believe your utterances, but I doubt it and I doubt whether anyone with an IQ exceeding 50 would ever be persuaded by them; in fact, I relegate your threads as pure and simple trolling. So, ask Admin to have your own religious board, where you can troll to your heart's delight amid those of equal intelligence as yourself, but leave us who want General Chat to be just that without being subjected to your meanderings.

Hey devil !!, if you discourage these people from pressing their views upon us all, you will also effectively discourage the blasphemous responses.

This in turn will diminish your chances of gaining ascendancy over your great rival (The Almighty).

Could it be that you are now in such a strong position that you no longer need to gather souls from such disputes?.

Very sporting of you if such is the case old chap, please cross my name off your list while you have the pen in hand.

Hello,

QAMERSLAND did not receive a warning but a request.

I pointed to him that the members of our forum appear to be overwhelmed by the large number of religious topics that are created lately and that a forum dedicated on religion would probably be more appropriate for that kind of topics. People are in this forum because they are interested in Cyprus and not necessarily in religion.

A few religion topics every now and then are fine. But when the same member creates several religion threads within days that creates a problem.

I did not ask from him to stop posting. I simply requested from him to make any additional religion posts to the religion threads that are already active.

Thanks
