I think this is the programme you saw. Where have you been Zan? Too much time in the CyProb section I think.

Thanks Niki and perhaps you are right but I do make a concious effort not to stick my nose into every thread. I think you guys are taking iot a bit too personally though. Just my opinion.

Maybe. It is just people voicing their opinions over what is probably the first time there seems to be a reaction from the government against emigration in the form of propaganda.

When you are close to a subject (CyProb is a prime example although a far more emotive subject) it is easy to get carried away and for others to not understand why people are so affected.

The point is that the family made the decision solely on shcooling and sports facilities but the hustle and bustle of UK life was also mentioned in negative terms. People have different priorities and they have to decide on those.

There was far more to it with the focus in the way the programme was made. If you read the thread and other forums that have discussed it you will see there are many other aspects about this programme that are 'fishy'.

Crime in the Uk has reached epidemic proportions. I know as I work on a daily basis within the Criminal Justice System (not as a criminal). Most of the crime is drug related and occurs so that addicts can fuel their addictions primarily to heroine. Offences of violence are up particularly amongst young offenders from 13 to 22. I'm moving to cyprus to give my children a better life and to take them away from influences were drug culture is the norm. The grass is not greener in cyprus but there is certainy no comparison when it comes to crime statistics. The documentary you speak of was totally bias as it pulled at the nostalgic heartstrings of the family involved and did not give a balanced judgement based on the pros and cons of each location. I too look forward to the follow up.

the reason there is more variety in uk is basically because its like the united nations everyone bypasses the other countries to come here to recieve social security. it really annoys me when we were younger we lived in italy and my mum could not claim child benefit as we no longer lived in the country YET these people come over here and claim for kids who do not even live in the u.k???????? then they get the lowest rate paid jobs so they get full working tax credits and get pregnant so they can claim there kids are british citizens so they get even more help and rent paid etc etc etc you cant even get a dentist its WRONG.
going off on one a bit but its true the variety is here as there are too many non uk citizens bringing there crappy cultures to the uk and we dont want it so take it back and live in your own country and who gives a crap if we can move to your country WE DONT WANT TO so go home.

Have you read that it has now been decided to stop the translation service provided for the non- English speakers , who basicaly dont give a toss about learning English since the translation service was there for them. The cost to the tax payer ? A staggering 500 million pounds !! The country has gone absolutely bonkers. Here we have people with British passports who can not speak a word of English , living on the state in receipt of all available benefits and yet the BOSS OF HARRODS is being denied British passport because he is considered Unsuitable !!!Can you believe these bloody politicians and decision makers ? We have become a nation with the Traffic Wardens mentality. They have just realise the folly of their efforts to force the British people to accept a multi cultural society at the cost of their own culture.Councils up and down the country run by incompetent and corrupt officials trying hard to remove the Britishness of our nation. I said before and I will say it again. I came to the UK as an immigrant at the age of 15 , knowing that I was coming to England , not Italy , France Pakistan or India. I had two choices . Either to adapt and integrate or go back to Cyprus. I integrated and yet I have still retained my Cypriotness , that incidentally blends quite well with the British culture.

England has rain.................lots of rain................rain of biblical proportions. I'm from York so I should be used to rain, but even I'm shocked. The guy next door has grown a long white beard and has taken to wearing robes, as I look out he is putting the finishing touches to a big wooden boat and animals are lining up in couples......nevermind I can always dull my senses watching Celebrity Extreme Knitting Revisted and Channel 5 always have some quality programming involving sharks or Nazis ( or Nazi sharks ).....or I can watch the news about a PM we didnt vote for taking power or go to my local where I now have stand outside to smoke...........but thats no bother as its summer.........oh hang on I forgot its raining.....so its out in the flood with all the other social outcasts....and the possiblilty of getting bitten by a Nazi shark swimming past. So in closing England is great.....as is our football team...ahem...I'm usually quite upbeat. :D

But the most obvious thing I can think of is money. There is much more of it in the UK and generally you don't come to Cyprus for the career opportunities.

Plus the English football team has at least a (small) chance of winning the world cup. Although you don't technically have to be there for that...
Oh and decent shops open on a sunday. Really miss that one...

Cheers

I said a *small* chance... Very small... Although still better than lottery type levels that you would get here...

Cheers
