What is this God? One of these men at Glasgow Airport was a human torch fighting with Police trying to put his flames out screaming "Allah! Allah!"

By default there is no God! The Christians are divided in themselves as to what or who God is, the Muslims and the Jews describe it as a non-entity - i.e: something that cannot be seen, described, of no form, of no gender etc etc. A total void or unknown as far as that description goes.

So what is God and his/her/its religions? Something created as a last resort of worship after all other icons and resources ended up with a rational explanation! Humans worshipped the sea, the sun, the moon, the space whatever. When these were scientifically explained the religious bigots who had a good tool for exploiting the masses invented the God as we know of it today in majority of religions - an inexplicable identity so that there is no danger of anyone else scientifically discrediting it!
