Sorry TC! I just noticed your reply. Soon we might find out we are long lost relatives! :D

It was (and probably is) a very beautiful village. Being there, smelling the earth ovens smoke, listening to the sound of complete silence, and watching the waves in a sea of green created by the surrounding vineyards, gave me more pleasure than anything I enjoyed during the whole of my life!

Since I was a child, as soon as we turned off Pissouri into the narrow road leading to Alektora, my heart would start pumping like mad with excitement. It is a great treasure in that area, and yet no one else in this forum seems to have heard of or seen it! (even those who keep talking about parties in Pissouri)

Perhaps on my return to Cyprus we can arrange to go there together for a visit... :D

Was In Alektora 6 weeks ago, beautiful part of Cyprus and great views down to the sea. Went there to check the connecting road from Platanisteia to Ayios Thomas which is now tarmac.

Thanks for the reply kafenes! :D

I think I would have still preferred it when there was no asphalt and electricity going through the village. I found it very exciting with all the gas-lamps and torches - they gave a unique atmosphere to the homes and cafes at night. And riding on the back of a tractor along earth roads to vineyards was an adventure for a kid! (it was not until 1968 the RoC government decided to bring electricity and asphalt to Alektora and many other TC villages in the area)

I sometimes feel sorry for our children who will never get the chance to experience the kind of village life that existed in old Cyprus - much better than any camping expedition the young ones would enjoy to have!

It's all relevant bigOz, and our children in 50 years time will think back of driving a car on the good old tarmac roads instead of riding on there flying scooters. :)

To my shame the British did nothing to prevent the rape of Cyprus. Where was I when this all took place in 1974? In a Bloodhound unit near Episkopi, when we had full "lock on" on the invading Turkish aircraft but were prevented from firing by political masters led mainly by the US.

The shame is that no-one did anything about the oppression of the TC people for the previous 11 years, the illegal build up of Greek forces in Cyprus prior to July 20th, the illegal take over of the RoC government by the GCs from 1963 onwards, and the subsequent coup.

The puzzle is why you should wish to employ a rather ineffective weapon under the circumstances (it being designed for use against high altitude bombers of which there were few, and Troodos would have got in the way) against the only party (Turkey) who were actually engaged in the mess legally, under The Treaty of Guarantee, thereby endangering the evacuation of British nationals trapped in Kyrenia.

Still, there are a large number of other people in this forum who ignore the facts and prefer to run with their fixed ideas so you’ll probably feel right at home. Welcome

I never said I wished to employ it, just that it was available were it required. Troodos would not have "got in the way" as you so quaintly put it as the aircraft we were tracking were over Famagusta. While Bloodhound, in your opinion, may have been designed for bombers I can assure you it was (while never tested in anger) very adept with all incomers. So what were you doing in '74?

you turks on this web site ..have got big balls and always forget ...you invading some 400 years ago and stole the land forced greeks from their lands and claimed them yours built shrines and mosques and forced the original people in land .taxed the people to death ...detroyed the culture and you still believe you have this right to claim the land you stole ...sorry i think not ...

we can talk about who lives in whos house and how some are rented and some are not and how sad and how we can sell the land and make ££££
fact of the matter is there is a lot to resolve between the communities and here comes the middle of July ...i was at the U.N meeting on saturday ...greek cypriots all turned up had a laugh waiting for turkish cypriots to turn up.. one mp from the north turned up to cough on us ....
waste of time ...for the U.N ,U.S .U.K
NORTH CYP TURKS DO NOT WANT A SOLUTIONS ..WHY ...BECAUSE IN THE END ...THE E.U will eventually recognise them and give them access to various channels to diffuse ankaras anger over the stalling of their talks
any GC who believes that this wont happen is either blind or dum ...

wake up ..its took late ....denktash is selling your homes to jews and americans ..why because he knows that no court will take cases against them

G.C we lost the war and we are loosing the battle
be satisfied with what we got ..close the crossings forget and move on ... i have £ 1mil of peoperty and i forgot it ...i dont want to know or see the land ...what for ..so i have to share it with foreign invaders ,who claim it because they invaded 400 years ago and forced us inland ..

man wake up and stop debating .... aint got time to mas der bate with you turks fact is i dont want your bi commical agrees

bang 9 automatic
