You should have asked them than how come they have no problem usurping RoC, which in reality, is supposed to be a bi-communal, bi-zonal state with the political equality of the two communities on the island. You should have asked them how can they be disucussing the Cyprus Problem anywhere with the title of the RoC, as this is illegal in law and untrue in reality. And while you are at it you should have asked how they plan to compensate the TC community for 44 years of theft, ambargo, oppression and strangulation that took place in the middle of the 20th century.

Different culture in the north though.

I do not believe that applies to all Turkish property left in the South, and there are many examples of properties taken over, or built upon since 1974.

Perhaps you should take a trip to the village of "Alektora", near Pissouri, and see if anyone is harvesting my family's vineyards (hundreds of donums) and living in their houses. I have been dying to find out, and will probably pick the courage up to visit it on my return this year - but I really do not wish to, for fear of upsetting myself. Not because someone else is occupying them - because the same is done in the North, but I do not know what kind of a reception I would get from the current occupants.

This was a TC village with a population of around 250-300 but thousands of donums of vineyards and other land/property. If anyone is living nearby perhaps they could have a peep and let us know...

The point is Murataga that the folk in the south are those who were invaded. Properties left empty by those who departed are protected by Cypriot and international law. Those in the north are being sold by an illegal occupier, no UN spin or Turkish lies can ever change this fact.
To my shame the British did nothing to prevent the rape of Cyprus. Where was I when this all took place in 1974? In a Bloodhound unit near Episkopi, when we had full "lock on" on the invading Turkish aircraft but were prevented from firing by political masters led mainly by the US.

Sorry TC! I just noticed your reply. Soon we might find out we are long lost relatives! :D

It was (and probably is) a very beautiful village. Being there, smelling the earth ovens smoke, listening to the sound of complete silence, and watching the waves in a sea of green created by the surrounding vineyards, gave me more pleasure than anything I enjoyed during the whole of my life!

Since I was a child, as soon as we turned off Pissouri into the narrow road leading to Alektora, my heart would start pumping like mad with excitement. It is a great treasure in that area, and yet no one else in this forum seems to have heard of or seen it! (even those who keep talking about parties in Pissouri)

Perhaps on my return to Cyprus we can arrange to go there together for a visit... :D

The shame is that no-one did anything about the oppression of the TC people for the previous 11 years, the illegal build up of Greek forces in Cyprus prior to July 20th, the illegal take over of the RoC government by the GCs from 1963 onwards, and the subsequent coup.

The puzzle is why you should wish to employ a rather ineffective weapon under the circumstances (it being designed for use against high altitude bombers of which there were few, and Troodos would have got in the way) against the only party (Turkey) who were actually engaged in the mess legally, under The Treaty of Guarantee, thereby endangering the evacuation of British nationals trapped in Kyrenia.

Still, there are a large number of other people in this forum who ignore the facts and prefer to run with their fixed ideas so you’ll probably feel right at home. Welcome

Was In Alektora 6 weeks ago, beautiful part of Cyprus and great views down to the sea. Went there to check the connecting road from Platanisteia to Ayios Thomas which is now tarmac.
