:D Thank you Lena. I've found a really good GC album called Ellines Akrites (Vol12). Have you heard it? It's one of the best Cypriot albums I've heard in a loooong time.

Lena it's no trouble at all. I don't have the whole album though, only have few of the songs. Only problem is that I downloaded it from iTunes and they protect the songs which means they're not easy to duplicate or share. :(

I'm going to have a look now and see if theres any way around it. I'm sure there must be. Do you have WinRar or WinZip? If you have it's easier to send....

Were they also as graceful as TCs doing the womens karsilama?

Our dances are blatantly of Turkish origin, they respresent our people, my grandparents, their grandparents and so on. Similar to how you cry "GC mimicry" when you see us using parts of your culture, you can't fool me when it's you using mine. These dances represent OUR people, not even the Turks but the Cypriots.

Yeah just like "Ben and Jerry" make "Phish Phood" or "Fossil Fuel" or "Baked Alaska" but we all know it's just a variation of ...

In the fifth century BC, ancient Greeks sold snow cones mixed with honey and fruit in the markets of Athens...

So dance your heart out ... but you are merely doing a variation of this:

 You're so skatty!!!

The dance depicted in your picture is CLEARLY a warrior dance. Just because they are facing eachother! Does that mean the salsa is a variation of Greek dance too?

Even some of your music thats of Greek origin was composed by Turks (and vice versa I'm sure).

If you skip to the bottom of page 17 in this thread, Natty posted a video of a Greek Cypriot wedding. You hear that music? The Aziziyes Syrto. It was composed by none other than Sultan Abdul Aziz himself. 8)

And corect me if I'm wrong but does the GC keep saying 'hade' in the Anatolian dialect (haydi)?

Ok thats fine. Thanks! :D

I found out how I can turn the songs I brought from iTunes into mp3's. I'm doing it now. It's only a few songs though, I have a whole TC album too if you want it?

I am talking about roots and derivations and you give me subtle variations on a theme ....

My Local Library has a huge section on Dance, and there are countless books on Classical Greek Dance which led to latter day dances in the Byzantium and then filtered through to the Ottomans ....

You are just confirming what I am saying by any similarities.

A few embellishments here and there, do not change the History, much as you wish ... You acquired your cultural know-how from the Greeks.

Many other cultures that have similarly done so, are happy to admit this. Only the Turks claim uniqueness, on what is clearly modified versions of Greek habits and traditions. 8)

Whatever Oracle. You can keep on dreaming. We've heard it all before. Even the Zeybek dance is supposed to be Greek (from the ancient Greek God Zeys so I hear ). Nothing whatsoever to do with the Zeybek warriors....

And we ARE happy to admit the Greek traditions we use, it's you with the problem. Not even the Ottoman changed the names of Greek music or dances. If the Turkish dances were Greek they would have Greek names and Greeks wouldn't of forgotten how to perform them nor would they of had to Greekify them in order to use them.

Yeah pull the other one ...

Keep dreaming kiddo, you derive from sub-standard stock  ... Only joking!

Cling on to the "fairness" of the Turks that only you has witnessed.

Heard about the "Turkish Coffee" fiasco ... (that got a thread locked, maybe we should let you dance away, and pretend you have contributed to something  )

Greeks are Generous .... :D ... we aim to improve other cultures.

(Pity the poor "TC"s who want to appear better than mere Turks ..... such self-esteem problems? )
