This is the official Paphos airport weather at 1130 UTC (1430 local).

You do realise that car thermometers require you to be moving at >50 km/h for at least 10 minutes to be accurate? If you are parked, they pick up the heat from your motor, as well as the reflections from the hot surface.

Downtown Nicosia is more likely as you have the "urban island effect", where the heat reverberates between the buildings. Unfortunately, the met service have closed the Nicosia METAR station and the nearest one working is at Erçan (Tymbou) airport. This reached just 40°C today and I would guestimate that this would be the same (±½°C) as around Nicosia, away from buildings.

If you look at the 72 h graphs at http://www.cypenv.org/weather/wx3.htm, you can see that the maxima for each day is dropping slightly. My forecast at http://www.cypenv.org/wxfcast/forecast.php shows that I expect the temps to continue dropping slightly through the week. Add a degree or two for Nicosia and subtract as much for Paphos.
