TALAT IS SUPPORTING CHRISTOFIAS FOR PRESIDENT...OR IS HE????

Postby BirKibrisli » Wed Jun 27, 2007 9:22 am

I was just reading Sener Levent's take on Talat's wish for Christofias to run for President...I founded it amusing...and a bit cynical...but you can be the judge of that....

Levent believes that what Talat is doing is really supporting Papadopoulos indirectly, because he is worried Tpapa might indeed lose the election if Christofias runs...The logic is that GCs will not vote for President someone annointed by Talat.....His motivation for wanting to keep Tpapa as President is,according to Levent, that the world now looks on Papadop as they used to look at Denktash...They hold him responsible for the failure of the AP, hence of the solution....If Papadop loses that will harm only Turkey and Trnc's efforts to convince the world that it is the GCs who stand in the way of a solution...

What do you think?

Talat unknowingly assists TP in his re-election. Anyone Talat sides with gets burned! :)

Of course it is cynical. A crazy game in a crazy situation.

I really don't think this is so far fetched. Who in their right mind in Talat's office would have told him "Hey i got a great idea, we really want christofias as president because we'' be able to re-start negotiations with him. Why don't you go public and announce to the GC's that you prefer him. That'll get the GC's to vote for him."

Talat's reputation over here with the hard line statements he's been making recently is worse than Tpap's. We'd probably respond to a reccomendation from Ecevit rather than Talat.

I really trully belive the people themselves do not want unification. If they did they would find a peaceful way to show to their leaders what they want and corner them to agree,

People are simply thinking of themselves and not the broader community hence the 33 year stalemate.

Nothing to stop protesters meeting at Ledra wanting the pull back of Turkish troops for openning of the checkpoint. Nothing to stop protesters from either side exchanging gifts of peace an olive tree for example.
