Talat had news conferance today.İt was live transmitted from Bayrak Tv.
Greek Cypriot reporter asked him? which candidate he supports.... he replaid it is not rigth for me to comment about this he said.greeks cypriots can decide what they can do about it.tommorew i will write more details for u .

As i said here is the summary of the press conferance:
Speaking during a press conference Mr Talat responded to the Greek Cypriot Leader Tassos Papadopulos’ letter in which he is suggesting a meeting with President Mehmet Ali Talat.

Expressing the belief that the meeting will not be enough to overcome all the problems, President Mehmet Ali Talat said it will be very difficult to solve all the problems being faced in just one meeting.

However, Mr Talat said that the Turkish Cypriot Side is proposing to take up the problems faced during the 8-july process at a meeting at leaders’ level and the continuity of these meetings.

He added that coordination committee which has spent a lot of efforts until today will continue its works and assist the leaders in this process.

Reminding that the lists were exchanged in the 8-July process, Mr Talat said that the Turkish Cypriot Side continuously proposed a meeting between leaders so that these problems would be overcome.

But he complained that the Greek Cypriot Leader Tasos Papadopulos had always rejected to meet alleging that the climate was not ready for a meeting between the leaders.

‘We kept our proposal on the agenda and at every opportunity we repeated that the leaders should come together so that the eight July process can be successful’ Mr Talat added.

He noted that it is very clear that one of the important reasons why the 8-July process has not been successful and the problems of the process arise from the fact that the leaders were not directly involved in the process.

Stating that Mr Papadopulos’ has changed his attitude and has given a green light for a meeting between leaders, Mr Talat said now there is a real hope to save the process.

However he added that many other measures need to be taken to render the process effective.

‘I intend to discuss with Mr Papadopulos other measures at our first meeting to render this process effective’ the President said.

This is the theory

TPap send an invite to talat now that he knows Chritofias is running separately. This is because with christofias in the background Tpap balanced out somewhat his absolutist image with the personality of Christofias (the guy who wants to reach out and touch a TC  )

Now that christofias is gone its time to take an intiative and look busy otherwise the other 2 candidates are gonna rip into him like sharks for not doing anything to solve this for the last 4 years. (Contrary to VP beliefs candidates will LOSE an election in Cyprus if they are seen to not want to solve the problem.)

Talat knows this....so why does he accept? Talat can not be made to be seen as one of the 2 parties who wants a solution least. he enjoys his european trips too much. If he is seen as negative next to a Casoulides (which he will be forced to be) then no more invites for unofficial visits with EU leaders...a form of gratitude to talat for being so "positive" and since Talat enjoys playing president more than anything else of any substance....he'll accept this gratitude and someone might, just might call him Your Excellency one of these days thus making his entire year. (i'm sure there will be a parade arranged in Lefkosa the next day.)

On the other hand keep Tpap there for another 5 years and its dinner parties and black ties for Talat till the cows come home (or in our case the donkeys)

Tpap is happy he's in power for another 5 years and his relatives all have jobs
Talat is happy cause he gets to play dress up some more
The British are happy cause no movement means permanency for the bases.
and the Cypriots......who gives a crap about the Cypriots anyway.

At present, the two communities in Cyprus have very different ideas about the solution. As far as the Turkish Cypriots are concerned, there are a number of possible options.

One alternative is to merge the northern part of the island with Turkey, becoming a province of Turkey.
Separation: the two communities form separate states and go their own ways. History would suggest
that this is not a viable option,

Double énosis: There is an additional danger here in that the border between Greece and Turkey would then be extended to include Cyprus, so that trouble between the two in other areas (Thrace and the Aegean) would be more likely to spill over into violence on the Cyprus.

Confederation: the two communities form some loose federal arrangement, where the powers of the
central government is weak, with most of the powers emanating from the two provinces.

Federation: the two communities join together in a state where the central government is relatively
strong, but where considerable powers are devolved to the two federated states.

Unitary State: a situation, as in 1960, where there is only one government, with no
constitutionally-devolved powers to the zones. An attempt to re-establish something like the 1960
Republic is likely to end, once again, in tears.

Levent believes that what Talat is doing is really supporting Papadopoulos indirectly, because he is worried Tpapa might indeed lose the election if Christofias runs...The logic is that GCs will not vote for President someone annointed by Talat.....His motivation for wanting to keep Tpapa as President is,according to Levent, that the world now looks on Papadop as they used to look at Denktash...They hold him responsible for the failure of the AP, hence of the solution....If Papadop loses that will harm only Turkey and Trnc's efforts to convince the world that it is the GCs who stand in the way of a solution...

DT. wrote:I really don't think this is so far fetched. Who in their right mind in Talat's office would have told him "Hey i got a great idea, we really want christofias as president because we'' be able to re-start negotiations with him. Why don't you go public and announce to the GC's that you prefer him. That'll get the GC's to vote for him."

Talat's reputation over here with the hard line statements he's been making recently is worse than Tpap's. We'd probably respond to a reccomendation from Ecevit rather than Talat.

for me it doesn't mutter if PAPA or CHRİSTO wins they all same.İmportant thing is how they see us...... they don't have magic stick in their hands...... What the Greece, Turkey, U.K and superpowers say. it is simple as that. İt will take more than another 40 years till they sitdown again to talk something .....
