Human rights that the TCs want to violate.

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Postby Alexandros Lordos » Tue Feb 15, 2005 9:40 pm

Insan, I accept your analysis of how TCs became so politically dependant on Turkey and the Turkish Armed Forces, and I fully respect the inevitability - after a certain point - of this historical development.

From my survey also, I noticed that most TCs are indeed "happy for Turkey to guide their policies".

The big question now is: How are we to ensure that this will not continue after a solution, with the TCCS being an unofficial protectorate of Turkey? You see, historical dynamics have a way to ignore even the most cleverly crafted "comprehensive settlement proposals", in order to perpetuate themselves ...

Although, we all know that there's nothing certain in this world; there are things that when done, strengthene the degree of certainity. Theorically I can suggest that changing the skins of traditional Turco-Greco/TC-GC relations/attitudes in opposite direction of what they have been until now; would help a lot to elliminate prejudices, hatred, lack of adequate confidence and fears between TCs-GCs and Turks-Greeks.

Although there have been good inter-communal relations in many fields of life to a degree; the traditional political stance and irritating attitudes of political elites of both parties still keep maintaining almost the same old-fashioned, detrimental mentality.

Vast majority of TCs don't trust any of the political parties of GCs and Greeks. Even TCs do not have an absolute trust to their own political parties and Turkish political parties. To the contrary of what TCs feel about GC political parties, the majority of GCs trust their political parties and do not trust any of the TC political parties. This contradictory point between the two communities is the point that limit and even end the relations, participations, collaborations of the members and groups of two communities. What most striking for TCs is the support majority of GCs have given to Tassos. It is a well known fact that the most unwanted man for GCs is Denktash. While recently, majority of TCs have weakened the influential political power of Denktash, swingeingly; the impression of majority of GCs created upon TCs is that "Well done. You did a good job by kicking Denktash to his corner. Now do some more favour us and kick Turkey out of Cyprus as well. Then we all return to our homes and live a prosperous life with the guarantee of equal rights of all citizens. This is what our Tassos too, ask from you. There's nothing controadictory between our and Tassos' demands. Tassos is the only man we trust in order to get what belongs to us and live without the fear of Turkish threat."

This mentality of majority of GCs which to me is obvious that exists; soon will cause to worsen even the existing good but frail relations between the members and groups of two communities.

I don't believe that Tassos has changed or will change his ever existed stance regarding the Cyprus issue. Even if some day in the near future he has changed his known stance - seems impossible to me- no TCs would believe his sincerity.

Shortly, as long as Tassos or a counterpart of his have been the main leading man of majority of GC community; it's impossible to advance to a better position with reconciliation and rapproachment activities, let alone to reach a lasting comprehensive settlement.
