Is SKY going to dispappear?

Postby Niki » Tue Jun 26, 2007 3:15 pm

I have been reading that the UK SKY satellite service is getting worse because of the ageing satellites and by the time they add new satellites the service will not be available within 2 years.

Does anyone know anything about this?

I ask as we were going to have it installed but if it will be gone soon there's no point!

If this is true what is the alternative? I know broadband will eventually take over but until then?

Stop worrying Niki..these rumours go round every year round about the same time and are usually started by non experienced SKY installers..
It is a fact that we experience signal problems in summer months but that is up to the atmospheric conditions and the reason our signal is affected is because we are very far away from the footprint..
The present satellites, specially Astra 2D carrying BBC/ITV have a life expectancy for another 5-6 years so until then there is no need to worry.
The next generation satellites might have a tighter spot beam which could cause us problems but until they are in space transmitting we cannot know..
Astra 2D is also a new generation satellite in use since 2002 and it does have a spot beam but we still receive it with large enough dish..
