How has everybody else been coping and can anyone top 80!!!!!

P.S these bites are still apearing even after using different repelant methods to our skin and around the home.

I think I'm one of the lucky ones with "bad blood" because the bugs don't seem to bother with me. I think I've had about 10 bites over the 2 year period we've lived here, yet the wife gets attacked frequently! Don't think she can match 80 bites though!! You could try wearing a diving suit??

Highlander, better get some medical advice. It was on the news some days ago that people with multiple bites should see a doctor as it could result in bad infection.

Thank you for the info and advice Kafenes.................you are right it can be a serious matter if left unseen, but we have all been to the doc and are taking anti-biotics present, which also believe it or not makes your blood unpleasant for them and they dont bite you (clever little shits arent they).
Cheers Brian.

I counted 56 and my daugher had 92 when we were here at the beginning of June! About 10 of these were on her face bless her. One on her arm blew up badly so a trip to the pharmacist was needed.

We have bought 'pop up' mosquito nets to fit on to beds for next time, plug in insecticides and I will have nets fitted to windows. The repellant sprays didn't do a thing. :(

Well I seem to be another one with bad blood.

I rarely get bitten and if I do they don't linger long so the bite is very minor -- seems that one taste of me and they are off.

In contrast they seem to love my wife who seems to collect about 8 to 10 bites a night .

Of course, those of you who insist on living within a few hundred m of the sea will always be more prone to bites. It is not a bad problem inland.

My legs are actually starting to look like i've been in a car accident!!! I have more scars and scabs on my legs from scratching mossie bites so much that I am a bit shy to wear shorts.. although i have to suck it up and wear them cause with this heat, trousers just aren't do-able. I got a bad bite thursday night and now my leg has gone all bruised around the bite.. maybe this is from my scratching? I use 2 types of mossie spray every night before i go out or to bed, but still get bit. At the moment i can count about 26 fresh bites on my legs and only a few on my arms. Where can you get these pop up mossie nets someone was on about?

well im glad to hear that im not the only one who who gets bitten when in cyprus.
i was there from 27th may untill 10th june and even though i only had 11 it was terrible i had both legs from my knees down in bandage. when i get bitten i react so badly. and to cut a long story short each one took layers and layers of my skin off and each one spread to 2 inch and to add to that it caused my legs and feet to swell up to the size of tree trunks.
i dont know if anyone saw me walking around in a mini skirt (because it was so hot) with legs the size of tree trunks and wrapped in bandage after lots of antibiotics and loads of cream its now healed but i am left with dark scars.
poor me!

Hi,
being terribly bitten myself while working in the garden, I made a deep research to find out what kind of insect is killing me(when.how it looks like) Well, in my casew it was the SAND FLY (pls. read about it in the net!) When you know who is your enemy, it's easier to fight him or to defend yourself.
I use now the pleasant smelling CITRONELLA OIL (pharmacy! costs 1,15 CYP) and roll it on my legs, arms, face and no insect (!!!) - neither fly, nor sand fly or mosquito comes close to me!!!
On the veranda at evening we use an UV blue (black) lamp. It attracts the insects and the fly into it and get burned.
Again mossies alone AUTAN should be good (pharmacy)
In case you live here: Put nets on the windows, a net sliding door and put some pots of BASIL at the entrance, at the windows- the mosquitos will avoid coming too close.
Wishing you luck,
Beethofan
