@humanist
I should have said unconstitutional & irregular. I already explain why the President himself cannot negotiate a problem that exists between 2 of his communities. This is not the job of the President of Roc, not in his duties neither is in line with the powers granted to him under the constitution. The president is the President of the State not the president of the GCs!!
Now suppose the president is a Maronite. (Notice I don't object a Maronite to be a President.) As you know no Maronite was kicked out of his house, neither any one was killed or arrested in any of the conflicts between the GCs and TCs. Either in the 60s or in 1974. The maronites were always free to stay/visit their occupied villages (although in the long run it proved they suffered as much as the GCs regarding racist practices against them by the occupation regime). So in addition to the fact that the President is actually on bridge of his constitutional powers in negotiating the problem between GCs and TCs, we will be having an extra irregularity of someone who was treated as a "neutral minority" negotiating on behalf of the GC community.
Imo (and this is the opinion of many legal experts in Cyprus) the Gc community should elect someone other than the President to negotiate the Cyprob.
