Greek? What Greek? I AM CYPRIOT!

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Postby THE HIGHLANDER » Tue Jun 19, 2007 8:26 pm

By the same token, am I obliged to write correct Greek? I like my Cyprian Greek so stop picking on my weird Greek and I'll quit picking on your bad English! Deal?

Correct me if i'm wrong here GR but havent you said many times on this forum you are 100% Cypriot, yet in the above statement you mention you like your Cyprian Greek language when communicating with others,I thought the people of Cyprus had their own national/local dilect ?
I'm Scottish and my language is very similar to English and Irish (not wales as the Welsh have there own unique language) as do the Galic people in the far north of Scotland.
But i would never class my language as Scottish English or Scottish Irish and these 2 countries are a hell of a lot nearer to Scotland than Greece is to Cyprus.............what are your thoughts?

This what they are doing to GCs for the last 40 years/ the worst is that some GCs are part of this came!!!

My country's history is older than that of Turkey and Greece put together, my language is the official Tsibreika, my religion is that I'm the only God there is, and my beliefs are that you are a disgruntled Cypriot female from the Polytechnio days!

Your turn now...

Additinally: a language must be also a written one!! Can you write correctly " Tsibreika"? maybe is Tzibmreika or ask a Mongol Turk to tell you the correct prounansation!!!1

I actually said “Cyprian Greek” without the word “language” at the end so I was referring to a dialect. As Epsilon correctly reminds there is no Cypriot alphabet so it remains a dialect. With Gaelic and Welsh it’s different of course.

Cypriot Greek adds many new words and does all sorts of other things to official Greek so it cannot be compared to a Scott’s distinctive English pronunciation. An English person can understand a Scott but a Greek cannot understand a Cypriot. :)
