Heat wave on the way

GET ready to roast. The Weather Services have announced a steady increase in temperatures this week, with the thermometer set to hit 40 degrees Celsius by next Monday.

Head of the Weather Services Kyriacos Theofilou explained that the current weather system has come in from the north, and he expects that Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday will see an increase of between one and two degrees, with the mercury set to shoot up after that.

Yesterday, a high of 35 degrees Celsius was recorded in Nicosia.

Theofilou added that the temperatures were not unusual for the time of year. “In June 2000, 2001 and 2006, we also saw 40 degrees, while on June 10, 2002, the temperature reached 42 degrees,” he said.

The weekend is set to see increased traffic on the roads, as people flock to coast and mountain areas in order to escape the heat.

Hi Brian

The BAR sounds GOOD to me - but not sure what the wife and kids will think to that!!! :x :( :?

Hows things in Norwich??? We used to live there! If we EVER had to go back to the UK it would be one town we would choose to live...

I am having dinner with the new Lord Mayor of Norwich, next month :-)
I do not expect it will reach 40C though!

speaking of mad dogs....
make sure to give your pets ample shade and lots of water in the heat. take them inside and let them enjoy the air conditioning with you!

Same as ever, still getting beaten by Ipswich (my team). Council still as inept as ever and if you have car - prepare to be hated. We cannot wait to move out to Limassol.

I'm going to Norwich on Saturday! Lovely place.

My daughter is mad keen on Ipswich Town Football Club, we see one of the players at our local pub regularly.

Up to Saturday, I doubt whether it will much pass 37°C in Nicosia and 35°C elsewhere. See http://www.cypenv.org/wxfcast/forecast.php. It is updated every day by 0930, 1330 and 1830, so you can see how the weather develops as it does.

If you think that's hot, what are you going to do when summer comes? We have not had to use any aircon yet.

BTW, summer starts at 2107, local time, on Thursday.
