"God" is a human creation that was made to satisfy human needs, such as the need for security and the need to give answers to the questions that the insignificant humans could not otherwise answer. Most humans simply can not accept that most probably there is nothing more after this life, or that there are questions that the best answer a human can give is "I don't know".

The smart powerful ones took the concept of "Gods" a step further and created religions in order to better manipulate the crowds by exploiting these needs.

In my opinion the best a human can achieve is what Kazantakis said: "I hope for nothing. I fear nothing. I am free."

Good morning; Touching words, Piratis, especially coming from you. But for many people the belief that A God exists does give them "hope", a "friend" to turn to in very desperate times. As you said It is an "answer" to everything they dont understant, but a way out.
Regards

God is the universal dictator. He is accountable to nobody and has given bad ideas to people like Hitler, Stalin and the rest of their kind.

GG

When will you get it into your paranoid head that we don't hate Americans (whom you don't even respect enough, yourself, to give them a capital A) or the USA. Many of us have visited the USA many times and have good friends there and enjoy our visits. What we dislike is the US foreign policy, which includes sticking their nose into sovereign matters that don't concern them. Especially when they see the mote in others' eyes but cannot see the plank in their own, such as on basic human rights.

You mean like sentencing a Brtish subject to death for writing a book; isn't that interfering with the soveriegn rights of other countries? or the plonkers out in the streets burning effigys? our children do that on November the 5th.
All I can say is God help us if these hysterical followers of islam ever gain control in civilised countries.
I don't call islam a religion it is a cult for the convenience of the leaders, proper religions don't go around banning freedom of speech and all the other digusting practises that are carried out in the name of the dual standards so called prophet Mohamed, or should it be profiteer not prophet?
Religion if it is needed/desired is for the good of its followers not the persecutiom, pain and suffering caused in the name of Islam.

Your outstanding ignorance of Islam is exactly the kind of thing why I suggested tha religion should be banned from this board. I'm sorry, but you haven't got the slightest clue about Islam. Have you ever been to a Muslim country? If so, what did you learn about Islam? Not much!

I've visited at least a dozen Muslim countries with varying degrees of religious thought. I have even spent a total of months in Malaysia and Egypt, as well as weeks in Indonesia, Syria, Turkey, Tunisia and shorter visits to Brunei, Jordan, Kuweit, UAR, Qatar, Bahrein, Pakistan, Palestine etc. (I used to work for the UN). I have many friends in these countries, some of whom I correspond with still, even though I'm now retired. One of my best friends is even a Haji, 3 times over. I think if you totalled all these visits, they would probably exceed a year of my life. I have never once, in any way, been insulted or otherwise been shown anything but respect in these countries and I respect the people there. I have often discussed Islam with some of the people I have met, even with Imams. I can assure you that your view of Islam is distorted by a few isolated incidents perpetrated by extremists that you find in every religion.

And who are we Brits to condemn such pseudo-religious atrocities, when, in recent years, we have had the Shankill, Graysteel and Kingsmill massacres, not to mention Bloody Friday and Omagh and Manchester bombings, all on our own territory and all for religious sectarian causes. We can be just as extremist as the worst Islamist one. How dare we condemn others for similar crimes as we commit ourselves?

So, can we please have a moratorium on religious postings here?????

Shooting women in the head in public executions was standard procedure in Afghanistan just for learning to read. and you call me ignorant.
In Pakistan right now they're trying to pass a law making it punishable by death for anyone leaving Islam.
And you call me ignorant, get real, as far as I'm concerened they insult my Wife by not giving her the same staus as a man so don't call me ignorant I've also discussed Islam in Turkey; they left when I brought up the subject of equal rights for women.
