wife wants to move

Postby bigdog » Mon Jun 18, 2007 7:37 pm

My wife has been wanting to move to Cyprus for a few years now and has been trying to convince me . My wife is a qualified nurse and I am a plumbing and heating engineer experiened in mostly comercial contracts . Can anyone tell me if there would be employment opportunities for us and also if there is property availible to rent as we would not want to sell up on the Isle of man where we live untill we see how things work out .
The last thing that I am worried about is how welcom we would be made as although every time we have been in Cyprus things have been great but reading through some of these forums gives me second thoughts .
Thanks to anyone who takes time to read .

Welcome bigdog, or should i say (maddog) only kidding bud,in Paphos i know they are screaming out for nurses but they only get £600cy a month, you aso have a good trade as i see very few plumbers advertising so you can work for yourself very easily and enjoy an excellent lifestyle as your living overheads are much cheaper than the UK,your also right in renting before you buy as there are many nasty loopholes in the property market,if you need any other info, please let me know,
all the best Brian.

Its a walk in the park honestly,i only arrived in January with my partner and we have no regrets whatsever, and theres always someone here to help you through, sometimes you think the only difference between here and the UK is the beautiful warm weather and breathtaking coastlines,as there is so much British influence here and it helps you settle in so quickly.

Hi, I to am a qualified nurse and the pay and conditions here are terrible. The wages are around £350 A MONTH THE HOURS ARE 46 A Week, they are so behind the times here in the nursing feild it is frightening, they have no understanding of moving and handling or infection control when mrsa hits here all hell will break loose. Most of the nurses employed are from the Eastern block Romainia, Bulgaria, and Russia.
If you can get £600 a month l would like to know where. l am cleaning which is twice the money and the hours are great.

this is what i found on another thread
----------------------
According to the guide entitled "Living and Working in Cyprus" published in English for Ministry of Labour and Social Insurance Department of Labour - the minimum wage for newly recruited employees is currently Cy£384 gross per month and increased to Cy£408 after a continuous service of 6 months. This is for protection of vulnerable groups of employees and is for certain occupations such as shop assistants, clerks, child-care workers and personal care workers (nursing aids). All employees should receive a written contract within one month of commencing employment.
In case of non-compliance, complaints can be made to Director of the Department of Labour Relations. Tel: 00357 22 401695 or email: [email protected]

Not sure if this link will work correctly but it's from the Eures website. Not the easiest ways to search for jobs but it does provide available jobs, contacts and more importantly - payscales!

http://ec.europa.eu/eures/main.jsp?lang ... &regionId=%

There are over 2000 jobs listed - some in Alphabetical order but then you have to include the Greek alphabet in there too (so, it does seem to start again in the middle).

There is a way to contact your local Eures Advisor too. It's certainly opened my eyes!
