Rushdie Suicide Attack Threat

A Pakistani minister says Muslims would be right to launch suicide attacks over the Queen's decision to award Salman Rushdie a knighthood.

Anger in PakistanReligious Affairs Minister Mohammed Ijaz ul Haq told parliament: "This is an occasion for the (world's) 1.5 billion Muslims to look at the seriousness of this decision.

"The West is accusing Muslims of extremism and terrorism.

"If someone exploded a bomb on his body he would be right to do so unless the British government apologises and withdraws the 'sir' title."

Officials in Pakistan say the knighthood is an insult to the religious sentiments of Muslims and should be withdrawn.

AFAIK, the fatwa against Salman Rushdie has not been revoked, although it has not been actively sought for a few years. Knowing that certain states have him under a contumacious sentence of death, it was not a diplomatic move to give him a knighthood, to say the least. In fact, it was downright provocative. Note that I'm not commenting on the justification of the Sharia law that is the basis of the fatwa; that is another matter. One has to understand the tenets of Islam to know what this is all about.

The point I must make though is that only a small minority of Muslims are extremist Islamists; the vast majority are perfectly normal, ordinary people like you and me. I have many Muslim friends in Malaysia, Egypt, Turkey, India and Jordan and my relations with them have been no different than with anyone else. Remember, you have extremist Christians, as well as Muslims, and they are just as bad, if not worse.

there is only one religion acceptable in the site of Almight God, all others are man made, one Example is that Cristianty is not found anywhere in the bible, and the world trinity is nowhere in the bible but still people are mislead by spirtual leaders, a historian said that the christianty is not the religion of Jesus christ but the religion of Saint paul who did not meet him in him life time or met once according to some other historian, he was self opointed after jesus and wrote 14 of 27 books of new tastament, means more than 50 %,

Devil... you are not wrong......... but just who do they think they are demanding anything? Rushdie wrote a bloody book! Its our country and f*** all to do with them... I dont recall any publicity about a christian saying he would walk into a market place and detonate himself killing and maiming innocents...(and yes I actually have some muslim friends too....but if it came to the crunch...they're muslim and I'm christian. And that wont change)...please enlighten us as to exactly which part of the koran (in the peaceful bit) says its ok to kill? Or does it say, as we are force-fed, 'kiiling can never be tolerated'? Hmmmmm

devil, you are absolutely right and I agree with your post entirely, unfortunately there are those among us who will immediately assume that you are in concert with extremists due to the fact that they can READ but are unable to DIGEST the contents of what they have read.
