Cyprus 1974-2007 (33 Years of Turkish Occupation)

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Cyprus issue will never be solved! People are dreaming. After spending 2 days here and talking to people I PROMISE YOU that TCs and GCs will NEVER agree on a solution. Sad but true!!!

Zan, did you read this one, from our good friend T_C who is reporting from "Ground Zero" on the sentiments of the TC's towards peace.

Does this ring a little bell as to what my Cousin's Husband said which most of you dismissed it as being "untrue", because you were questioning me on another thread earlier tonight, about the TC's wanting a solution and the GC's not, or something in that effect.

It does get tiring to have to explain to you over and over again what I meant and said regarding this issue Kikapu.

What I said was all in that post of a thousand "fuck yous". I told you that your interpretation was wrong as it is with T_Cs post. Yes the TCs have had enough and yes they cannot see a way forward with the GCs. Does this make them bad. Does this make them the tyrants that you summed them up to be? I think you must have missed the post in which a greater number of GCs do not believe a solution would be found. On that note are you going to issue a statement about the GCs being tyrants and greedy about wanting to hold on to their wealth and not wanting to share it with the TCs. There were many here that said exactly that and accused TCs of just living off Turkey and wanting what the GCs have worked hard for. What they and you are failing to understand is that if Turkey did not subsidise the TCs then they would have starved and then what. The GCs had us begging for milk and medicines for our children and we as a poor family in the UK sent money, when we could to Cyprus. My eyes ARE NOW FILLED WITH TEARS, as I tell you that I last week I found out that my mother sent her wedding ring to Cyprus so that my people could eat and has never replaced it. This I will try to put right as soon as possible now that I know but my family felt it would be better for me if I did not know.

The point of all this is that when I was in Cyprus a few years ago the thought of buying GC property was not on. I am not going to lie to you and say that all the people thought that for the right reasons but there were many that did. Since the OXI to the Annan Plan, you guys have no idea what that did to the TC mentality. The thought of living for another 30 years as unsettled as they have been was way beyond anything that followed. The free for all started then and as the greedy ones bought up land by the hectare then many thought they were missing out and did the same. What person in the world would not do what they did? Just as in the south we have our corrupt people as well and to tell you the truth, I think they did the right thing. I am sorry for the refugees as well as my self but I think compensation was on the cards from then on and the right of return forfeited by the "RoC" them selves. So your interpretation of making your cousins family seam as if they had this in their minds all along and they mean the GCs harm is what I criticised and nothing else. The reason I said you fabricated the whole thing is because it was just too convenient for your story.

Zan, I have to go and can't answer all of your post, perhaps tomorrow, but just before I go, let me remind you one more time, that the Cousin's Husband bought most of his ( GC) land 8 years ago and not right after the failed AP OXI in 2004, so in his case, it was not the results of hopelessness but rather voted for the AP but not for peace.

By the way guys İ didn't mean TCs don't want peace. İ said they will never agree because both communities see the problem in a different light. TCs ideal solution is unacceptable to GCs and GCs ideal solution unacceptable to TCs.

İm going to write my own report when İ get back cos this holiday of mine is turning out to be a real eye opener. İ think everyones right but at the same time wrong on a lot of issues (both TCs and GCs).

İm not going to write anything else because İ dont want people to misunderstand like Kikapu did above. İ'll write everything in one go when İ get back to the UK.

good idea,t_c.....let us hear from people like yourself who has been on the ground, and who does not have preconcieved ideas.....and please try to be as objective as you can...I wonder if you take requests? I am particularly interested in the settler/TC realations,TC/military relations,
ordinary people's moral issues, and the economic situation regarding ordinary TCs....Thanks....looking forward to your report.... 8)
