Bishops' cars

Postby devil » Thu Jun 14, 2007 5:10 pm

According to a reportin the Mail, a number of bishops are seeking new limousines.

Would it not be more fitting for the Church to display more Christian humility and use more modest cars. A £50k limo is no faster on our roads than a Toyota Yiaris, if they respect the law as Jesus Christ enjoined. I cannot believe that episcopal backsides are any more worthy of comfort than that of their parishioners. In his ministry, Jesus walked or rode on a donkey; do the bishops believe that they deserve better than their saviour?

Furthermore, the Church should offer a climate change example by using vehicles with more modest carbon dioxide emissions, rather than flaunt its riches. Jesus said that it is easier for camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to reach the Kingdom of Heaven. The same applies to rich bishops. They are in no way above the ordinary man. Perhaps the should re-read the Beatitudes in the Gospel according to St Matthew??

If they gave the money thus saved to the poor within their respective sees, they could perhaps be more respected as following in the footsteps of their Master.

Do they get them tax free? Because £50,000 does not buy a new limousine in cyprus, and thats a fact.

I agree with you devil. they set a bad example to everyone else.

the people have allowed the church to become this powerful.

there is way too much money in their coffers given by the people on the assumption it will help them reach heaven.

why do you have to kiss the priests hand???? they are just men.....
