Mama and groceries

Postby Mills Chapman » Wed Feb 09, 2005 2:42 am

Guy walks into a store to get a bag of chips, and an old lady comes up, looking sad. She says, "You remind me exactly of my son, but he's not with us any more. Could you do me a little favor and say, 'Hi, Mama,' to me? It would make me feel so good." It seems strange, but he does it, and kind of loud because she seems hard of hearing.

A couple of minutes later he's in the next aisle, and she walks up again, tears in her eyes. "I hate to keep bothering you, but it would mean so much to me if you could say, 'I love you, Mama.'" This seems even weirder, but he feels sorry for her, so he says loudly, "I love you, Mama."

Then he goes to the back of the store, picks up a bottle of soda and gets in line at the register. The woman is carrying her groceries, and as she leaves, she says, "You've been so nice. Could you do me one last favor and say, 'Bye, Mama'?" So he does, and she walks out of the store, waving to him. He gets up to the counter with his chips and soda, and the clerk rings it up and says, "That'll be $125." He says, "What? For chips and a drink?" And the clerk says, "Your mama said you were buying the groceries."
