Can someone shed some light?

Postby kafenes » Wed Jun 13, 2007 2:26 pm

The wife showed me this £5 note the other day and asked me what it meant. I don't have the faintest idea what's it about. Can someone explain the stamp on this note for me please.

Hi Kafenes, I’d translate that as…

Hellenism is one thing
Christianity another
In other words Judaism

…as it stands it’s a load of mumbo jumbo. However if you were to add an exclamation mark at the end and a pair of inverted commas you get…

”Hellenism is one thing, Christianity another” In other words Judaism!

…then it would’ve been a clear protest against those who don’t recognize the presumed marriage of Hellenism with Christianity.

Typical far-right wing theories.

Regards, GR.

My Greek isn't very good but this is what I think it says -- even though it doesn't make sense --

No doubt someone will give you the correct translation soon.

All Greeks
All Christians
Jewish -- why

1) The "flag" and its mast is there in an attempt to hide the minaret of Peristerona mosque
2) It is a display of anti-Turkish, anti-Muslim, pro-Greek racism
3) It is a criminal offence to deface a bank note
4) Such racism is also a criminal offence
5) It is even a criminal offence to offer or pass a defaced bank note: theoretically, you could be imprisoned for offering it for payment. For it to be defaced with racist slogans would be even more serious. Be careful to whom and how you offer it.

Thanks GR.
Thanks devil for the advice. Maybe I should pass it on to someone who gambles in the north so they can stick some more stamps on it or shoot him:)

I miss you too karma. No, haven't been listening to Efi lately. As for the old pictures, my mum gave me 3 old calendars with old Cyprus photos. As they are too large for my scanner, the wife will scan them at work and then I can post them. Haven't been active at all with the forum lately. I have decided that I have a brain of my own and instead of reading copy paste rubbish on the forum written by paid people I now prefer to look out for middle to old age people and talk to them about the old times in Cyprus, and I found out so many interesting political facts which amazed me. Yesterday morning I had coffee with someone who actually was put in charge to guard the TC at the kikko gymnasium the day the 3 busload of TCs disappeared. It's so amazing to hear the story told first hand in a humanly way (he had tears in his eyes as he described the event).
