I mean, e.g. its obvious why people would relocate from say Scotland, (as I intend to do) due to the poor climate and high cost of living. But Canada? I always imagined it had everything, hot climate, beautiful scenery, low cost of living and I am always puzzled why folk would want to leave there. Perhaps you could enlighten me as it is a place I,ve often considered going to at one time.
Cheers, Chris

Hi Avanapa, I haven't relocated permanently, I'm here for 3 years then heading back to Canada. My fella is Military related so I go where he goes! It will be hard to leave when the day comes, as I said in my previous message I have grown to love the country as well as my good friends. As hard as it will be to leave Cyprus, I do know that Canada is a beautiful country with a very good quality of living, and that is what we look forward to. We're also very into our skiing!! so very much looking forward to the winter seasons!! I can handle the -20, -30 weather, grown up on it so guess i've got used to it!! Although the idea of buying here and spending our winters in Cyprus has entered my mind.. never know!!

Canadians in Cyprus

Postby lisasol » Fri Jun 22, 2007 9:50 pm

My family is moving to Cyprus in July. My husband is in the military and we are posted to Cyprus for 2 years. It would be cool to know other Canadians.

Where are you being posted to? I am also a Canadian here with my partner in the military.

My husband is posted with the UN. We are renting a house in Lamaketemia (I probably spelt that wrong).

We just finished packing and loading our home in Edmonton and will be staying in a hotel until our departure date.

What does your husband do? I thought there was only one posting in Cyprus.

He's not a Canadian soldier, he's British Army. I didn't know Canada was still sending fellas over with the UN, they told me that was finsihed up back in the late 80's! Guess plans have changed! LOL You'll like it over here, it's a very nice place to live. Once you get here we should get in touch for a drink!

Yes we still have a Canadian in Cyprus. Only one though. Most of the troops were pulled out in the 90s. They are still committed to a presence, even if it is just one guy.

We are really excited. I would love it if we could link up. When are you finished in Cyprus? I have been trying to link up with the British services in Cyprus (I think they call it the "Hive"). We have a 12 year old and we want to be able to connect with other UN kids.

Where in Canada are you from?

Thanks for posting.
