barking dogs!!!!!!!!!!

Postby webbo » Sat Jun 09, 2007 12:35 pm

hi
does anyone know the protocol about barking dogs in Cyprus please? our neighbour's dog barks at anything, she is always on the balcony which overlooks our front door - our only point of entry and exit to our house.(you are almost scared to go out or in for fear of starting her off again!). we spend as little time as we can in our garden as we are aware that we will set her off while the owners ignore her and let her bark!! The poor dog never goes out, is obviously bored and just needs some exercise and attention that she is not getting

when i registered our dog a few months back, I asked the authorities there what to do and they siad that they would deal with it. So far no success as the dog continues to bark and annoy us and no doubt other neighbours unless they are immune to the constant yap yap yap!!!!!

please help us, it is driving us to despair and with not speaking Greek we feel like we are up against a brick wall.

cheers in advance for your help!!

First thing: speak with your neighbours about the problem, calmly and politely. They may simply not be aware that their pet is a nuisance.

If that does not work, make recordings of the dog from your property, preferably with noise level measurements, noting the time and date. Try talking again with the neighbours with that evidence.

Third stage is to advise the police of the noise pollution, especially if it occurs between midnight and 0600. It is doubtful that they would do anything first time, but keep on at them until they are sick of you and they may send someone round just to shut you up! They will tell the owner that complaints have been received and they have to keep the dog under control.

Last resort is to consult a lawyer who can apply to the courts for an injunction for the owners to keep the animal quiet. If they do not comply, then they will be liable to severe punishment. At the same time, the lawyers can start a civil suit for monetary compensation for loss of amenities, loss of sleep etc.

You may want to offer the neighbour to pay half the cost to get the dog into a "behavior classes", where the dog will become calm and fun to have around.

Second option is to get the dog Castrated.....if Male.
