I know of at least one village where as soon as the TC population moved to a safe haven, GCs paid somebody to raze the mosque to the ground bit by bit. And the stones reused somewhere else. That being the case, no wonder that "ruined mosques were not seen". The only thing noticable would be an empty plot.
