UNSG Report - June 2007 - Section II Part 28

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

UNSG Report - June 2007 - Section II Part 28

Postby BigDutch » Fri Jun 08, 2007 7:27 am

Would anyone in the occupied areas tell me/us how the TC press reported the following incidents :

UN SG Report on Cyprus 4th June 2007 wrote:"The trend towards increased construction on the Turkish Cypriot side continues to be a cause of concern, as it may complicate efforts towards a comprehensive settlement."
Is this trend confirmed by residents in occupied areas ? Is there no concerns from the "normal" person about the long-term result of construction on GC owned land ?

UN SG Report on Cyprus 4th June 2007 wrote:"UNFICYP received complaints from the Greek Cypriot side that uninhabited houses in Rizokarpaso belonging to Greek Cypriots were being
demolished. UNFICYP confirmed that and protested to the Turkish Cypriot side the practice of demolishing houses without the owners’ consent."
Any idea why the homes are being demolished ? un safe ? clearing land for communal/"govenment" projects or for private residential projects ? Any residents "up there" concerned by destruction of peoples homes ?

UN SG Report on Cyprus 4th June 2007 wrote:"UNFICYP personnel faced difficulties accessing the Greek Cypriot community in the Karpas area, with restrictions being placed by local police on home visits without prior clearance."
Again, how was this reported in TC press ? What were the reasons for these restrictions ? What goodwill is being shown by placing restrictions on support to the GC's living there ?

UN SG Report on Cyprus 4th June 2007 wrote:"On 18 and 19 April, UNFICYP personnel were prevented by the Turkish Cypriot side from accessing the Leonarisso station in the north to perform regular health, safety and maintenance-related tasks."
Again why ? what benefit to anything is restricting UNIFICYP to the UN station ?

most probably only "africa" reported those parts.
all the rest concentrated on the paragraph regarding the isolation.

same thing in the south. the goverment parties and press emphasized the positives and negatives of the report, while the opposition only the negatives

Without be able to comment because i am not on this side of the river i noticed an important factor. UN statement saying that Turkish Cypriots side prevented.....This is very important since I am sure that such problems created by Turkish invasion forces and not by TCs.UN slowly slowly move towards the final division of the Island , as they already proved by Annan plan.
