GREEK CYPRIOT COURT POSTPONES THE HEARING OF THE KTOS’ CASE

Postby halil » Fri Jun 08, 2007 6:31 am

A Greek Cypriot Court has postponed the hearing in the case filed by the Cyprus Turkish Teachers’ Union against the Greek Cypriot Administration asking for educational rights stemming from the 1960 constitution.

The case was postponed until the 5th of September.
During today’s hearing, the Greek Cypriot Court heard the Greek Cypriot Attorney General’s Office views regarding the case.

Attorney General’s Office submitted its defense in Greek but the Court asked the Office to translate its defense into Turkish as soon as possible and the hearing of the case was postponed until the 5th of September.

Speaking after the postponement of the hearing, the Cyprus Turkish Teachers’ Union President Şener Elcil said that the Greek Cypriot Administration has been trying to gain time to delay the exposure of the rightfulness of the Turkish Cypriot Side.

`Our rightfulness will be accepted sooner or later` he said.

The Union has been demanding the opening of a Turkish-Language school in Limassol in line with rights stemming from the 1960 constitution..

I`m pro-unification, anti-occupation .... but what is the RoC playing at ? Since March 2005 the RoC committed to operate the TC school in Limassol but still nothing. Where are the benefits for this ongoing delay ? Do RoC residents not feel embarrassed by this continual dodging of the rights to the TC community ?

The world does see as its reported from the UN document circulated worldwide.

Your hope is not that the TC teachers win their case ? Your hope is ONLY that the world see the GC game playing. Will you be disapointed when (not if) the TC teachers win their case ?

KTÖS is one of the very few groups who are really interested in reunification.
way more than talat and christofias.

tc kids in limassol do have tc teachers, and lessons in turkish.
i have often expressed my opinion on mixed schools before, so i am not in really in favor of separate schools.
it would be interesing to dicsuss with a KTÖS member, to find out what the objectives of this moove are... :?

Of course Turkish students in South have the right of education in their language but I wonder does this 1960 consitution has articles which must apply and others which are dead?

If you take the certain consitution and sellect only some articles then GCs should sellect some others......?Unfortunately GCs leadership applying all articles favouring Turkish side but keep silence about the rest provisions of the constitution. If you feel that you are the weak party , (like GCs are) you behave as such and finally you colapsed.Who cares , we are all Cypriots and therefore descriminations can apply to both parts of this nation. The problem of course will arrise if GCs citizens go to the high court of ROC and ask equallity on constitution appliance to all citizens. eg. taxes, control of the society etc etc, foreign army etc etc

So that the world will help open that school or did you never really have any interest in such a school anyway?
