answer from british gov re petition for flights to ercan

Postby RichardB » Thu Jun 07, 2007 10:06 pm

Following the receipt of an application on behalf of Kibris Turkish Airlines, the Government has carefully considered whether it would be possible to approve direct flights from the UK to Ercan airport in northern Cyprus. We have received clear legal advice that, under the terms of the Chicago Convention on International Civil Aviation, the Republic of Cyprus would first have to designate Ercan as an international airport. They have not done so, and we have concluded that to approve such flights would be incompatible with both our international obligations under the Chicago Convention and our domestic legal obligations.

A petition was made to the British government re; Flghts direct to Ercan. The above is part of the response

RichardB,

Neil Armstrong already landed on the moon in 1969, just in case you get another late e-mail delivery.

It will be even faster if the plane just did a "Touch and Go" on the same runway.

Then it will only be on the ground less than 30 seconds.

Don't say I do not give you good ideas.

think the issue is that if one person disembarks you could count it as a touch down.

All you do is while flying over turkey, kick one of the passengers out the plane. If they land on turkish soil then thats your touchdown.

I do not think there's any specific rule, regarding passengers disembarking or not. The moment the wheels touch down, it counts as a landing.

As soon as that is done, and while the plane is still rolling, return the flaps to "takeoff position" and add Full Power and go for the Takeoff.

The whole procedure takes about 30 seconds.

Next stop Ercan.

I have been on many night flights to Ercan without stopping in Turkey. If there are no passengers disembarking in Turkey the plane will fly straight on to Ercan.

I would say this happens at least 4/5 times a month.

I have also always argued why the pilot cannot do a "touch and go" as suggested by Kikapu. For all intents and purposes you are "landing" as required.
