1) You will not investigate anything
2) You said "South"
3) You called Miltiades a communist

I had some nice words to describe your post above but I think I exceeded my "nice words" quota for today.

You are absolutly right.

I'm happy for you Miltiades, I don't know how often you come here but I'm always interested to hear how Cyprus changes in the eyes of the frequent visitor so if you find the time please let me know. Also, which wine did you drink the most while in Cyprus? :)

I reminded him that the ROC government is constantly proclaiming that it is the government of the whole of Cyprus and not the "Greek South " and that it represents Cyprus in its entirety . What would visiting T/Cs make of this I asked , would they feel that this island is wrongly divided and that we should be united while such blatand display of Greek Cypriot exclusiveness is vibrant . I dont know if I had managed to convey a sensible approach to the issue but the following day I noticed the Greek flag was not flying.
Talk about killing two birds with one stone ! Manage to visit my favourite spot , Kourion beach and had a few bottles of wine with Kalahari , Niki the girls and Nikis parents . We had a fantastic fish meze and it was a pleasure meeting such a wonderfull family.

The highlight of my entire stay was my trip to Birkibrisli's village in Pafos , Istinjo , glad to say that although my Cyprus map showed the village as KION , all the road signs leading to the village showed the correct name of ISTINJO. Although born a stones throw away , some 15 miles west I had never visited this stunningly beautiful part of Cyprus and was fascinated by the sheer beauty of the scenery surrounding some 4 T/C villages. The village is almost deserted and in partial ruins. I cant help wondering as to how long it will be before this virgin area of Cyprus is discovered and developed . Some 4 or so miles away the G/C village of Falusi is allready the home of 3 British residents , I stopped for coffee at the kafenes and talked to 3 G/Cs , having first asked for enan tourkiko , a Turkish coffee , the Kafetzis merely enquired as how I liked my coffee. They asked where I was from and I explained that I visited Istinjo as a mark of respect for a great Cypriot. Conversation turned to the past and all 3 concurred that prior to the fanatics of EOKA B they had interacted with their neighbours and had no problems what so ever. They also all agreed that this cluster t/c villages had been neglected by the government and that the inhabitants had a very hard time . None expressed any malice against their old neighbours on the contrary all were critisizing the G/C fanatics for all the mess that ensued.
I left to make my way back to Limasol clutching a stone that I now use as a paperweight , that I picked up from Istinjo as a momento of my visit .

I mentioned earlier that I was attending my nephiews wedding , and to my surprise two cousins of my brothers children , half T/Cs and half English , were also in attendance. My older brother's wifes's sister is married to a T/C hense my nephews have as first cousins two T/Cs , a boy of 18 and a girl of 12 .
Long may they live and spread the message of peace on our beloved Cyprus.

Just for the record sunshine , this UK Charly speaks fluent Greek , but can also switch to the "Mongolian " Cypriot dialect if the environment demands it . I do not subscribe to AKEL and neither do most of the UK Cypriots. Most of us "Charlies " are fed up to the teeth with the barrage of inconsistencies as to the position of the Government of the ROC. On one hand we are being told that THIS government represents all of Cyprus , that includes the areas under occupation , on the other hand we the CYPRIOTS , UK or otherwise are constantly fed with more contradictory propaganda centering on the "Hellenic " nature of Cyprus and totaly ignoring that we have on this island over 120 thousand NATIVE CYPRIOTS that are utterly brushed aside when it suits the ROC. The flying of a foreign flag at public places , churches etc SHOULD BE BANNED unless the flag is there for a specific reason ie conference or an event that includes the flags' nation. Let us fly the CYPRIOT flag let us invite our compatriots to do the same . They will not for as long as the Greek flag is flying.

As far as your comments that the Cypriots make noises when communicating amongst themselves that is absolutely correct. They fart a lot when in the company of farts such as you .

Can I also state very clearly that I and others like me do not flinch when it comes to promoting our island as the home of the G/Cs and the T/Cs , we do not allow ourselves to be intimidated or brushed aside because we are not citizens of our nation. We love our nation and want it to prosper and go forward as a modern European country with its own identity its own flag and its about bloody time that we dropped the Greek national anthem , I want to stand to attention with my compatriots Bir , Kikapu and hundreds more , to a CYPRIOT national anthem not a bloody foreign one.

One final comment to the political pundits of this forum. Can you not all agree that our efforts to unite our island , remove all foreign troops , and for the ROC to carry on convincing the world that there is only one Cyprus , and that the Cyprus government has sovereignty over all of Cyprus that in order to maintain this position actions have to speak louder than words. The T/Cs refer to the free part as the Greek part , if this is what we want then let us make it official. I for one will shed tears and consider such an event a much bigger catastrophe than the 1974 invasion.

Let us be Cypriots and act as we preach .

Locals do consider the UK Cypriots as the peasants , the horiates who left Cyprus as poor mostly village folk in search of a better life . I have always accepted that the vast majority of Immigrants to the UK were indeed simple peasants who have managed over the years under difficult circumstances to improve their standard of living , educate their children , and better them selves financialy . Inevitably very few had the opportunity to improve on their Greek language . Most , prior to coming to the UK , had little or none contact with Greek mainlanders and in my days TV existed in the British bases only. These pure Cypriots hanged on to tradition as it was back in Cyprus , progress was not even though of , and arduosly worked their way into the British way of life while simultaneously holding on to their Cypriot culture.
I visit Cyprus at least 5 or 6 times a year and over the years have witnessed tremendous progress in every walk of life , our roads , our cities , our beaches all have improved. Sadly , as they say , "o nouros to kipreou " when it comes to certain aspects of life , it remains in the past.
Has anyone noticed how beautiful the molos part of Limassol is ? And yet some complete village idiot decides to install a dozen stainless steel monstrosities , sinks , in order that visitors wash their hands !!! At least this is what a lady working there told me when I asked as to the purpose of these ugly sinks in an otherwise beautiful area. My letter is on the way to the Limassol Mayor. So you see an outsider looking in does focus on monstrosities with a sharper vision.

Hi GR , I come as often as my workload will allow me , mostly 5-6 times a year and always for short visits 3-5 days , ofcourse as you may know that the most precious little girl in my life , my granddaughter is in Limassol and its such a pleasure hearing her call me Pappou Krasi , though recently she dropped Papu and just calls me Krasi !!! She is a cute little thing , like everyone elses garndchildren are , and at the age of 3 and half speaks Greek and English , she always speaks to me in English and to the other grand dad in Greek.

I said before that I do not consider the Cypriot wines to be anything else but drinable. Im diabetic and stick to dry wines , alas , Cypriot dry wines are still sweet !!. I drink whites in the summer and they can be quite refreshing , I find PETRIDES , VARDALIS , VASILIKON , ARSINOE , TSIAKKAS very enjoyable and lets face it when on the beatch in Kourion , Dasoudi or the Amathous beach restaurant , the scenery and ambience takes precedence over wine texture ! My all time favourite whites are the French , Graves from the Bordeaux area , most if not all white burgundies made mostly from the chardonnay grape , the Montrachet from Cote De Beaune is an extremely rich and powerful wine renowed the world over, not forgetting the Loire region great Sancere , made with sauvignon varieties , and finaly the Puily Fuse and Puily Fume .
I think that there is indeed potential to produce some superb wines in Cyprus but much more detail has to be applied in selecting grapes from one only area and the wine making process to be monitored with ephasis on temperature , sugar content and storage of finished product.

you are a complete idiot.
first mongols have their own history and culture. so read somethings befre you use that as an "adjective".

yes we have a dialect, and at least, I , am proud of it.
since when should we all speak "athenian greek" ?
and who said that the homogenization of a language is a good thing ?
