Ask gizzy a question thread ^^

FROM Kekapu
I would like to hear more on the day to day life, that you had while living in the "TRNC" before leaving, or the lives of your friends right now. Open a new thread if you like, and tell us your life story. It is rare to get a true "eye witness" to the life in the "TRNC", because most TC's on this forum, do not dare to speak up.

Ok...Actually I dont have much of an interesting life story:
I was born in Kyrenia in 1987, went to 23 Nisan Primary school, I was at that school until the 4rth grade then my family moved to Famagusta. I finished my 5th grade in Alasya Primary school. I then attended to EMC and graduated from there and now am studying genetics in Cardiff university.

I already gave a bit of info about my parents already on a seperate forum. Perhaps I can add some interesting info but perhaps also sensitive. I say sorry to every GC in advance if I made them recall bad memories with the following.
My mums family are from Kyrenia. My mums father was working for the cpyrus government. During the war time, he apparantly helped TMT by carrying weapons...I dont remember him ever talking about this issue much but I was 8 when he passed out anyways. At 1974, they helped their GC friends and neighbours escape safetly to the south and my grandma still seas their GC neighbours and old friends. Both of them could speak greek and apparantly my grandma was sent to a GC school.

My fathers family are from a small village(Prastion I think) in Paphos. They all have the typical characteristics of the people from that reagion: "being obstinate" and "speaking laud" lol. My grandpas family owned a "gahfehane" and they had some land they used to do farming on. They had to leave their homes in 1963. My grandma still "curses" those days and everytime somebody visits her, thats like the main story she tells to people and finish with this sentence "dont trust the gavur" lol.... Both of them know greek and thats their "we are speking secret" language ^^...

And life in the TRNC... I have many thoughts on my mind and I find it hard which bit to start from... I would have liked to talk about the education system but they now have a new system and I dont know much about it :S...
Most of my friends are studying abroad like me. I have go the RoC passport and therefore I am studying as an EU student. Afther the EU membership, it has been easier for families to send their children to study abroad. Before the EU membership of the island, my plans was going to america and I took the SATs and Toefl. I took private lessons to take these exams as our school didnt have that kind of program of study. I took A-levels and thats how I applied to the universities in the UK. I am at my final year and hopefully will be a graduate in July. I still feel a bit young as I am only 20 and am a graduate!!! Its coz of the old education system in TRNC, I graduated from secondary shool when I was 17!! They know added an extra one year to the secondary school I think...

think I will take a break now as my hands started getting tired, feel free to ask more Qs ^^

What a fresh voice in this forum you are gizzy!! Welcome to this forum.
I am a person who usually fires at everybody (hence my nick) but I don't think i will fire at you any time soon.
This is just your only post I read tonight, I will have to read more of your posts to get to know you better.

Having read the above I realised you haven't done military service so I guess you are female right?

Anyway can you tell us some about the life of young TC people?

Mind you I am a "gochagari" -my youngest daughter is about your age.:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:

Hey don't be surprised There are too many kochagaris in this forum, I am not the only one,

hehe... gochagarıs rulezz...lol

From you question on TRNC youth, I deduce you are probably living abroad...
Actually the life of the young of the TCs is usually full of "alem" and "eylence", there is nothing serious going on that could be discussed as the most "important" parts of their lives are "what to wear" and "which car to get" etc... However as people get more "mature", thats the time when the main concerns start... What am I gonna do in the future? Which subject should I study? etc... As the job opportunities in TRNC is limited, choosing a career is really hard...
What are their options?
To be fair there is not much of an option. Since our economy is closed to the outside world, there had been much of a development. For example in my case there are not much job opportunity in TRNC. There are not medical research centres in the north and I think the only drug company is the same-old Pharmamondeal on Mesarya.
Many people of my age will probably choose to stay in the UK or work in the south coz there is not much opportunities for us in the North, unles you have god a family job to take-over.

Hey sorry, I thought gochagari was used in Turkish for both male and female. Thanks Princess of the month

I am liviving in Cyprus gizzy, in fact I have TC friends but they are all my age. I absolutely love the young generation of Cypriots and I don't care if they are GCs or TCs, I wish you all the best in your lives. There are not many chances for educated young GCs either my dear.Only chance is to become a teacher or get a Government job. Really ask any young GC you like.

You know what I like most about the TC young couples? They kiss each other inside cars by daylight. Young GC couples don't do this anymore...

He,he, he this makes the day for the old wolf
