Deniz,there is no sinister reason...
You have to understand the mentality of of Apoel supporters to understand why Omonia supporters tease them with TRNC flags and "1453" banners...
As DT pointed out Apoel fans regard themselves as Greeks instead of GC's....hence all the Greek flags on their stands...(fascist bastards) and Omonia supporters mainly being leftie AKEL members, they clash in more than one way when they play each other..

I sometimes wonder if Cyprus is the only country in the world where football teams are associated with political parties...

BRAVO!!!!!!!11Any GC holding a Greek flag is a fascist?!!!!!!!!!Then 80 per cent of GCs having a Greek flag at home are Fascist? Have you ever think they just to be Greeks?

If you think here we are Greeks and Turks go to Atca news and shake hands with them. Some claim they trace their roots back to sultans. Our ethicity is Greek and Turkish yes, but our NATIONALITY IS CYPRIOT. PLAIN CYPRIOT.
As for the other nonsense you said, that the 80% of the GCs have Greek flags at home, I can assure you the one and only who has a Greek flag at home among 1000 people around my house is a twisty elementary school pensioner teacher. I know because we hangs it outside his house every national holiday...
