VP your hypocrisy is unbelievable. What about the GCs who had lived there for 33 years before 1974 - what about their rights?

VP wrote:-

Bloody hypocrite, what about the inhumane cruel approach of the Turkish forces that threw out the inhabitants in the occupied areas; people who had built their lives there for centuries.

The GCs have a legal right to their land (as do TCs in the south) and that right is greater than any settlers. Turkey commited a crime in sending them to the island, she should take them back and pay them compensation.

This thread is to do with settlers and not refugees which I also feel shoudl be dealt with fairly by allowing them the right to return or compensation.

I reckon your stuck for words VP, so you say I'm off thread- god knows how many times you have done that - would you like me to analyse your posts.

Are you honestly saying that GCs have the right to return, because if they all came back - well I think even you could work that one out!

Do you feel that all GCs will return to a state with TC administration, I doubt it will be more than 20%, they will be a minority in the just like you suggest we should be in a unified Cyprus so Gcs shoudnt have a problem settling into an environment which they see fit for TCs.

Here is what I think,on humanitarian grounds only...Everyone who was born in Cyprus and have at least one parent who is a TC should be allowed to stay...The rest should be repartiated to Turkey at Turkey's expense...People who have no children but are married to TCs should be also allowed to stay...I accept the argument that it was not largely their fault that most of these people found themselves in Cyprus. But there will have to be an orderly way of repatriating these people and what I suggest is probably most humane...it's basis is not to separate families...I know it would be terribly traumatic for those who were born in Cyprus but to settler parents, but there is no way everybody who wants to stay can be allowed,if we want to be fair to those of both sides who have been made refugees in 1963 and 1974, at no fault of their own...Turkey has acted illegally by bringing these people to settle in Cyprus....and I am afraid some of them will have to pay the ultimate price when a solution is found... :( :( I gives me no pleasure to state that...

Bir, I have to say this. When I visited the RoC recently, which being, say round numbers twice as large as the "TRNC", land wise and 3 times the population numbers, the whole of RoC looked fairly empty. I can just imagine the "TRNC" looking even emptier with it's present land size to the numbers living up there, so there's plenty of room for everyone, if they, the settlers wants to play by the rules, which means no more freebies at the expense of others. This is why I believe, the problem will solve itself, when the reality will hit them, that the days of "free meals" will be over. If they want to be part of Cyprus, and give their allegiance to the RoC, assuming that's what we will have, or what ever the new country will be called, then they should be given the chance to stay, but I will not hold my breath too long, that most will want to stay. Large majority will swim back to Turkey and not even wait for the next boat.

You mean you hope that no more than 20% would return. If enough GCs returned you would lose so much land your "State" would not be viable as a "Turkish" state. The EU would not agree to a future GC majority to being treated as a minority in the north derogations notwithstanding. I'm afraid you have to accept the fact that economics are against you. Greek Cypriot wealth would eventually control the economy and ultimately the polictics of the whole island.

HAve a simple solution to this.

Everyone not a TC who hasn't paid for their house needs to pay for it now. If you do you stay if you don't you go.

watch the stampede.

I have no problem with what you are proposing,Kikapu...We know what is like to be uprooted from your homeland by force,or force of circumstances, and if a way can be found to stoip this happening to anybody else,I am all for it...I was trying to accommodate the potential GC objections, that the settlers have changed the demographic balance of Cyprus over the past 33 years and hence not all should stay...In the Annan plan some 46,000 were allowed to stay,so I am trying to suggest some simple formula to facilitate orderly repatriation...The truth is most of those who came earlier and were given free GC refugee land have developped it and sold it and returned to Turkey in any case...I wonder how they will sort that one out... :)

Thats why we need statstics as to how many GC refugees will want to come back and live in the north state under a TC administration and how many will want to sell up and stay south. The derrogations could apply as foreseen by the AP where people can live where ever they wish without citizenship of that state so as not to cause an imbalance in the majority minority scales, just like Malta or San Marino. The AP also took into account the economy difference between north and south and allowed for the derrogations to continue until the economy in the north caught up with the south.
The political balance will be set in black and white where proportional representation will take place and Tcs where the structure will allow either side to block decisions seen to negatively effect one state more than the other.

This is very similar to what I believe but I would go one step further and take into consideration those that have lived here longer than say 10 years on a case by case basis. There is plenty of room for everyone as long as these people are no longer occupying disputed property then I do not see the problem if they live by the laws of the land.

VP, I think you are a dreamer! You may believe thats TCs are god's chosen people and deserve special status but in the real world they are being slowly absorbed by Turkey and will soon disappear.

PS The AP was rejected by the majority of Cypriots

Dreamer or not we are going off the subject in hand which is the settlers.

Dont forget we are as much Turkish as we are Cypriots thats why we are called Turkish Cypriots, so both ends of the stick are shitty for us being absorbed by Turkey or Greek Cypriots you yourself confirmed that GCs would return to the North state and take control.

The now demonized AP was resoundingly rejected by GCs and accepted by TCs and the world knows this.
