Ladies and gentlemen goodbye!

Postby LENA » Sat Jun 02, 2007 2:26 pm

I am sorry for that...but i will not write to the forum any more (for some members I guess those are good news) since yesterday I had an accident with my pc. I spilt the coffee on it and even if i wipe and dry it as better as I could is not working.

I lost all my work for my thesis and lots of other things...unfortunately I was stupid enough not to back up my thesis...

So lots of work need to be done from zero...and no time for posting....hope everyone will be ok and still here until i come back...when ever it will be that...

Please keep this forum as civilised as you can....

No time for long posts...so goodbye everyone

AND KEEP ANY COFFEE, TEA OR ANY OTHER KIND OF LIQUITE AWAY FROM YOUR PC ... in just a second you might lose lots of money, lots of your work and files...

Sorry to hear about your bad news Lena, hope you will get everything sorted out and back on the forum full time as it is very rare to find someone to debate with who doesnt swear, use scarcasm and turns the other cheek from time to time. Take care..bye VP

Lena

All is not lost yet

It's doubtful that your hard drive has been damaged by the coffee spill.

The same happened to one of my sons -- he knocked a full cup of coffee over his laptop -- I bought a hard drive caddy -- took the hard drive out of the damaged machine pit it in the caddy and accessed it via another computer .

It's worth giving this a try as the cost will be minimal considering the amount of work you will have to do again.

Speak to someone well up in computers and ask them to help you -- it could save you a great deal of work .

Was it a laptop? If it was a desktop then what you say is impossible to happen unless you open the case and spill the coffee inside it  But as Bill said your work is on the hard drive and even if it was a laptop and something broke because of the liquid I think there is a big chance that the hard drive will still be ok.

Wait a minute Lena,

Don’t jump to conclusions too fast! The hard disk in a laptop is in a compartment protected from spillages that usually occur over the keypad so just get someone to remove your HDD, which takes about two minutes, and place it in a suitable USB caddy and presto you can hook it up via a USB on any modern PC and access all your files.

Which laptop is it? I can try and guide you to remove the HDD.

Regards, GR.

Get well quick Laptop. Dr GR will sort you out. Its only a temporary glitch.
I hope you recover your Thesis. When sorted try to back it up separately.

Lena mou,

don't worry, if you are in the UK, just take your laptop to pc world and they will retreive your data for you. I don't think it is lost, you just can't get to it.

They may also be albe to sort it out for you there and then if you can give them some eyes,

This forum needs you, as i told you before you are the voice of reason so don't go.

By the way Lena, Turkish coffee dries up after a few hours and turns into a powdery thing but Nescafe type of coffee always remains as a sticky residue and can easily cause a short circuit on the motherboard if turned on without the boards being cleaned and fully dried.
