Party consensus unlikely on settlement talks

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

hm i never thought of it that way brother. you make a great argument. in both situations a power hungry imperialistic nation invaded another country with the bogus "argument" of restoring freedom but in the end turned into an occupation.

Because the issue is not just about democracy, freedom and human rights. You use these words for your community because they suit your wishes.

The issue is exactly about democracy, freedom and human rights!

And yes, such values are our wishes. If these are not your wishes as well then there is something wrong with your wishes and not with ours.

We ask for such universally accepted principles, and you reject them because you supposedly see alternative motives.

We propose solutions that would stop such "alternative motives" even if we had them, and you reject these also.

In the end, with all these excuses what do you want to achieve? It is clear: An undemocratic state, where human rights are limited and is the protectorate of some foreigners. All these because it suits you this way.

So let me tell you, if what "suits" us is democracy, human rights and independence of Cyprus, while what it suits you is the opposite, then we will never agree because your "values" will never be suited for people like us that want to move ahead and not backwads.

Of course for you even such banana republic that the Annan plan would create would be a step forward, even in democracy and human rights, compared with what you have now. But you have to understand that for us it is not possible to permanently move backward with values such as these just to satisfy you. We want a better future for us and our children, and the strengthening of human rights and democracy are important ingredients for this better future.

Instead of taking such a negative stance, you should be more positive and realize that democracy and human rights are actually good things, and not things that you should try to limit for short term benefits. You should also understand that today is not the 60's. It is 2005 and we are in the EU. Under the current conditions and with a strong protective constitution, your allegations about a "hidden agenda" etc are nothing more than lame excuses.

Piratis, lame excuses or paranoia, probably the latter.

Remember that the GC have had the privalage of living under these human rights etc. but in the north the same cannot be said, it will take time for the adjustment hence if for a short time a little patience and resolve would go a long way in letting others catch up with where you are.
