COMMITTEE OF MISSING PERSONS IS TO START EXCAVATION WORK IN LIMASOL FOR MISSING PERSONS OF TASKENT.

The Committee of Missing Persons is going to start new excavation work in Limassol in South Cyprus, with the aim of finding the remains of missing people from the Turkish Cypriot village of Taskent.

The announcement was made by the Turkish Cypriot member of the Committee Gulden Plumer Kucuk at a gathering in Taskent yesterday evening.

The Turkish Cypriot member Gulden Plumer Kucuk, her assistant Ahmet Erdengiz and psychiatrist Prof. Dr. Mehmet Cakici came together with the relatives of missing persons from Taskent.
Informing the relatives of missing persons from Taskent, Gulden Plumer Kucuk asked for the patience of relatives as the excavation work may take a long time, varying between 3 and 5 years.

She also noted that the excavation work in Limassol will be carried out by 6 search teams, jointly with Greek Cypriots.

Mrs Kucuk said that Prof. Dr. Mehmet Cakici and his team are always available for psychological guidance for the relatives of missing persons.

She added that it is up to the relatives to decide on whether the remains of the missing persons will be buried at a memorial mass grave or separately.

Also speaking at the Taskent gathering, Mrs. Kucuk’s assistant Ahmet Erdengiz said that the exact places that the excavation work will be carried out in Limassol have been determined and that the mass graves including the remains of the missing persons from Taskent are placed in 3 regions there.

He added that the starting point of the events will be the first place that the excavation work will be carried out.

Stating that the excavation works will be carried out carefully and slowly, Mr Erdengiz warned Taskent people to prepare themselves in case some of the remains of their missing relatives might have disappeared through time.

For his part, the Psychiatrist Mehmet Cakici underlined the importance of finding the remains of missing persons in order to relieve relatives’ pain.

Mr Cakici noted that the relatives should not hesitate discussing the issue with their children and that his team is always ready to provide the necessary psychological assistance on the issue.
