IMPORTING A VEHICLE TO CYPRUS

Postby michael burnett » Tue May 29, 2007 4:18 pm

WE WILL BE MOVING TO CYPRUS NEXT YEAR AND WONDERED IF ANYONE COULD TELL ME IF IT IS WORTHWHILE US TAKEN OVER OUR 3.2 LTR MITSIBUSHI SHOGUN WHICH WILL BE 4 YEARS OLD, IF IT IS GOING TO BE TOO EXPENSIVE, THEN COULD ANYONE TELL ME WHAT THE COST OF A NEW OR NEARLY NEW RAV 4 WOULD BE, WE WOULD PREFER AN AUTOMATIC.

MANY THANKS

Hello Michael

I am trying to remember how much my car cost (row on / row off)
I think it was about £600.00GBP but we are talking 10 years ago,

So you are looking at a price over £1000.00GBP Plus,

I can't help you on prices of a Rav 4, but try the Internet and see what that comes up with,

when your car arrivals in Limassol port, you have 3 months to register it as duty Free, you can do this as long you have not been here more than 3 months,

you will need an agent to clear the car for you and of cause speak Greek.
and don't forget you need car insurance from this side before you can drive it on Cyprus roads, and thats just the start of it.

so there is a lot to think about.

Make sure you have covered everything.

THANKS FOR THAT, I THINK IT WOULD PROBABLY BE MORE BENIFICIAL TO SELL IT IN THE UK AND BUY NEW OR USED IN CYPRUS.

We just brought a new toyota hilux twin cabin as they work out much better value due to better rate of duty. Paid £15,000.00 brand new compared to £20,000.00 for second hand rav 4. I know i have said it before but Simon at deals on wheels is very helpful. He even offers a rental for £5 per day while your searching (which he scraps if you buy from him). He comes highly reccomended. He in Paphos.....search deals on wheels cyprus.

OH ye simple simon, famous words you wont get a car in Cyprus for under £3000cy "rubbish" we in the trade all know about him !!!!!!!! first worked for Andys Motors thats where he learned how to rip the Brits off, using the buy from me as you can trust me i'm English and i wont cheat you like the Cypriot car dealers,it just a shame it is infact the other way around !!!
I personaly dont buy cars at £800 and sell them on for £3000 making 220% profit at the expense of my own countrymen and thats a fact !!!

If any one would like a quote on importing their own vehicle give me a pm (£1000 max) ,if you are planning on keeping hold of your vehicle for many years in Cyprus then yes it is better to have it shipped over,as long as you have been the registered keeper for more than 6 months its duty free for as long as you keep it,you only have to pay for registering the vehicle (£600) but if you plan to sell it within a year or two in Cyprus you will have to then pay the duty due its as broad as its long that why we import so many cars into Cyprus at present as we pay the shipping, duty and regististration then, mot and tax them all within 2/3 weeks max.

I can only say highlander that Simon sorted me out OK. He had other cars which were too pricy for me..... but nearly 2 years on my car is still going well. And I paid well under 2 grand. It wasnt cheap but better than some of the other shite i had seen.

I got robbed by a smart Merc dealer in the UK. Mercs are this that bla bla bla to justify its high price.... until I wanted to get rid... suddenly its 'high mileage', 'lowly model type', its a few years old now (i'd had it 1 year). What a crock of shit.
