The 2008 Junior Eurovision Song Contest is to be hosted in Limassol, under 16's competing in the junior equivalent to the Eurovision. The Cyprus bid was victorious after beating competition rivals Ukraine for staging the contest.

The Steering Group of the Junior Eurovision Song Contest has accepted the Cypriot offer to host the 2008 Junior Eurovision Song Contest. Four countries did a bid to host next year's Junior Eurovision Song Contest, Ukraine and Cyprus eventually made it to the final round.

"We received some high-quality proposals for next year's Junior Eurovision Song Contest and after long consideration, the Steering Group decided to award the honour of hosting next year's competition to CyBC," Steve DECONINK-DE BOECK, chairman of the Steering Group, said.

The Limassol Palais de sports stadium is the venue for the competition, Cybc General Manager Marios Mavrikios had confirmed. The stadium is also known as the Stadio Spyrou Kyprianou - which boasts 7,500 seated spectators.

Even though it's still seven months to go towards the upcoming Junior Eurovision Song Contest, broadcaster representatives from Ukraine and Cyprus prepared detailed plans on their vision and creative ideas. After the announcement of next year's Host Broadcaster, Svante STOCKSELIUS, Executive Supervisor of the Song Contests on behalf of the European Broadcasting Union, invited the participating broadcasters to bid for the 2009 Junior Eurovision Song Contest.

Unlike at the Eurovision Song Contest, the winner of the Junior Eurovision Song Contest does not automatically host next year's edition, to minimize pressure on the young participants.

The 5th edition of the event will take place on 8th of December in the Ahoy' Arena in Rotterdam, where young singers from 18 countries will compete.
