The German Federal Assembly in Berlin has approved a draft resolution envisaging the lifting of the international isolations of the Turkish Cypriot People.
The draft resolution was presented to the German Federal Assembly by MPs of German Christian Democrat Party (CDU), Social Democrat Party (SPD), Greens Party and Free Democrat Party (FDP) yesterday.
The resolution which aims at contributing to the unification of Cyprus and to grant equal rights to peoples living on the island was approved by a unanimous vote at the German Federal Assembly.
The parliamentary delegation which is currently holding a series of contacts in Berlin was also present at the session of the Assembly where the draft resolution on the Cyprus issue was taken up.
During the session German politicians, in their speeches, condemned the Greek Cypriot Administration over its efforts to prevent the approval of the resolution.
Meanwhile, as part of its contacts, the TRNC parliamentary delegation today met with the German Social Democrat Party MP Lale Akgun.
Speaking during the meeting, the Speaker of the Republic’s Assembly Fatma Ekenoglu stated that the Cyprus Problem has been continuing for 40 years adding that the Turkish Cypriot People wants to solve the problem because it does not want their children to be brought up with this problem.
Pointing out that the Greek Cypriot Side has been working to create an impression that the Cyprus problem has been existing only since 1974, Mrs Ekenolgu said in fact the problem has been continuing since 1964.
The Speaker of the Republic’s Assembly said that the Turkish Cypriot People voted in favor of the Annan Plan despite knowing that they would lose their lands, on the contrary the Greek Cypriot Side who was against the Annan plan has been awarded with membership to the European Union.
Complaining that the international isolation of the Turkish Cypriot People has not yet been lifted despite the former UN Secretary General Kofi Annan’s announcement that the isolations had been lifted, Mrs Ekenolgu said “for us to have contact with the world we need help from the Euroepan Union. This is why we feel as though we are being punished’.
