How do TCs view the forthcoming ROC presidential elections?

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

How do TCs view the forthcoming ROC presidential elections?

Postby askimwos » Thu May 24, 2007 9:21 am

For the last couple of weeks the presidential elections have dominated the media reports in the GC side.

Even though the major parties have not yet confirmed their candidates, it looks like the most possible scenario is a clash between 3 major candidates:

- Tassos Papadopoulos (DHKO-EDEK and possibly EUROKO)
- Ioannis Kasoulides (DHSY)
- Dimitris Christofias (AKEL)

Since the forthcomingh election campaign is bound to be dominated by the Cyprus Problem, I wonder how the TCs view these elections.

The options available are disappointing. I hope in the end the 3 parties will find somebody other than Papadopoulos from the center and support him together from the first round. Maybe they should bring Markos Kyprianou from Brussels.

Just because Marcos appeared on TV 3-4 times and bragged on about issues he had just been handed with on paper doesn't make him a suitable candidate for anything. In fact I'll wager that once Marco's term as an EU minister ends he won't even be able to get a job as a cabbie here in Cyprus if TP gets re-elected... and he will. :)

Get Real: If Tpop gets re-elected am I to assume that the GC public are behind his policies? That would be the nail in the coffin for Unification, I'd say. Do you agree? :(

I strongly believe in the RoC because it provides 700,000+ people with a decent standard of living, decent and ever-improving infrastructure, and pretty much anything any person could want in the 21st century.

I wouldn't even dream of tarring this setup down for the sake of an 18% minority of Cypriots who can't decide if they're Cypriots even. Sorry Deniz, but as much as I like and appreciate the many TC's I've met and know I'm not prepared to risk my life and future for some bizarre arrangement because Ankara says so.

Those TC’s that want to blend in with this successful establishment have my full blessings and support but Ankara can get stuffed as far as I'm concerned and so can anyone else who wants to follow her.

Dont apologise Get Real, I merely wanted to know whether Tpop would earn the trust of TCs before unification could take place. Most people dont trust him because of his past.

denizaksulu, the nail to an agreed solution that would unify our country has been put long time ago when Turkey decided to partition the island and the AngloAmericans allowed it. As long as the balance of power that allowed the partition of Cyprus remain unchanged then the situation on the ground will remain unchanged as well. Then Denctash also managed to convince the TCs that in Cyprus there are two "peoples" that should live "side-by-side" with almost everything separate.

Under such circumstances there is absolutely no chance that an agreed solution can be found.

The reasons I don't want Papadopoulos is not that with another president a unification solution can be found but because I believe that his marketing skills suck big time and I don't like several other things about him not related to the Cyprus Problem.

Get Real!, I didn't even see those TV appearances of Kyprianou. I was just trying to think of a gifted politician that would also have possibilities to get elected, and I couldn't think of any. Kyprianou just came to my mind as the least bad option. Maybe If I was thinking about it a bit more I could find somebody better. Any suggestions?

TCs can register and vote in the elections if they want. Their 18% is more than enough to determine which of the above candidates will be elected.

Piratis, thanks for the reply. I guess the TCs will vote for the TCs candidate?
