Don't you know there are just two cheap seats per flight? If you see someone advertising for £99 and you go in and say I want one, you would be VERY lucky indeed. Much more likely, "I'm sorry, Sir, we have no seats left at this price."
In the days of Swissair, they advertised a return flight for, I think, CHF 199 ZRH>LCA>ZRH. I phoned them and asked for a seat on a given date. Sold out. Tried all the flights for a week before and after, as I was flexible. No better luck. So I asked the lady when I COULD go and return. Long pause while I heard her typing in furiously on her keyboard. No seats available at that price on any flight. As I phoned early the same morning as their ad appeared in the papers, I smelt a rat and notified the newspaper that they were carrying apparently false advertising. This intrigued the editor and he sent a reporter to investigate. The upshot was that the reporter found that there was one seat that was made available at that price on just 4 flights in each direction. I don't know how, but he found out the name of a passenger who had such a flight and traced him. It happened to be an employee of the advertising agency that Swissair used. It created quite a mini-scandal at the time (about 10 years ago) but it was much eclipsed by the other scandals of Swissair.
