This is very interesting and I think I could be forgiven for feeling that the deeper one delves the more murky the water re this issue. For me it raises a further point - should we examine to clarify such an issue of origin at all if in doing so so everything disseminates into more confusion (my interpretation of the posts) between interpretations and conversely if we don't examine it where are we?? Think I need to lie down and ponder some more... labels cause more problems than they solve in this instance in my opinion.. Lena isn't the only one who is wondering which side is marked up!

well if you insist I am a Greek Cypriot, born in Ammochostos or Famagusta as the British want to call it, by a mother who was born in Ayia Triada Karpasias, or Sipahi Karpass as the Turks want to call it and by a father who was born in Ayia Fyla in Limassol or Lemesos as the Greek Cypriots want to call it so I am from Kypros, or Cyprus or Kibris or Zypern or Chipre or Cipro ............it is confusing.......!!!

Aphrodite18, I am not wondering, I know what I am and I am Cypriot. I was sarcastic there!

i made the mistake of entering "fanourio" when the keybord was turned to Turkish Characters, so it ended up being fanourıo without the dot on the top of the i.... hense i ended up having a stupid nickname....

So it is fanour + windows code for I without dot + o = fanourio!!!
