İn Cyprus PAL B/G it's means u will get video but no sound. Ask for your dealer if your system will work in Cyprus?

That’s only an issue if you want to watch Cyprus TV – he has said that he is going to get a Sky system.

No, a FreeView TV tuner will not pick up Sky – You’ll need a Sky box and a minimum of a 2.7m dish if you want to watch BBC…

The sound offset frequency problem only affects channels through the tuner (terrestrial channels) if the TV set is going to be connected to the source (skybox/DVD/VCR etc.) through scart lead there is no problem with sound..

Having said that, nowadays many reputable TV manufacturers include in their TV sets the option of changing sound offset frequency through the menu.

UK uses Pal I (+6.0Mhz)
CY uses Pal B,G (+5.5Mhz)

Only the local TV stations I would have thought. Considering they are coming from the UK I doubt they care. I have MiVision which is the main TV option that Cyta offer. It basically works with your broadband connection (actually plugs into your router via a cat5 network cable) so no sat needed etc. Tiny little box which then plugs into a SCART connection I believe. No problems with my UK TV.

And Sky will have no problems whatsoever. Essentially Sky don't supply to Cyprus, so the suppliers use dodgy (illegal, but no one cares) methods to obtain it. But all the hardware is from the UK by the looks of things (deffo not from Cyprus). So all works as if in UK. Although you will need a NASA sized sat to pick it up... I've heard a rumour though that Sky don't like other countries illegally picking up their signal (like everyone who uses it in Cyprus) and plan to move their sat further north within a couple of years. Basically meaning you will need an even more enormous dish to pick anything up, if at all. And all the existing dishes will be useless for Sky (which are not cheap).

Cheers

That's a load of crap...Murdoch doesnt care where you use his boxes as long as you pay the dosh..
He even goes out of his way to give extra service abroad..

An example is the latest High Definition package which can be received even in Cyprus because apart from the two PPV channels which need a telephone line anyway, the rest of the HD channels are on Astra 2 A&B South satellites..These sats can be picked up even with a good quality 1.5m dish..

The main reason we need the huge 4m+ dish in Cyprus is BBC/ITV channels which are on Astra 2D (spot beam on UK) Almost all SKY channels can be picked up on a 2.4m dish..

Yeah, thats why I put "I've heard a rumour".

Yep, expect it to get cheaper too. Or at least bump up the spec somewhat for the same price. They predicted 50% price drops last year, and I haven't read anything about predicting it going up any time soon. I was a bit gutted when I saw my 21" 1600x1200 LCD computer monitor that was like pretty serious spec when I bought it 2 years ago or so, has since come down 50%. Cry...
