The first concrete results of the Project of the Committee of Missing Persons will be obtained as from the end of June.Speaking to the TAK News Agency, the Turkish Cypriot Member of the Committee Gulden Plumer Kucuk stated that remains of 260 missing persons have been found so far during the excavation work which started 2 and a half years ago.
Mrs Kucuk noted that the remains of the missing persons will be handed over to their families after the completion of the DNA tests.
She added that a psyhological advisor has been deployed by the Turkish Cypriot membership of the Committee to guide the relatives of missing persons during the delivery of the remains.
Explaining that the excavation work is continuing in the Lapta region in the North, and Strovola in the South, Mrs Kucuk said the excavation project may last for five years.
Despite of the non-solution in Cyprus, the issue of missing persons is one of the rare issues which brought the two sides of the island together under a solution process.
The Committee of Missing Persons aims to provide a solution to the issue by 2010, with the support of the international community.
