Tentative enquiry if I may of the grand offices of the Almighty and all Knowing JB Bear.. I wasn't expecting anything sir but I was wondering if I should be paying into the national insurance equivelant for whatever reason even if not employed or registering myself as such for any administrative reason eg I am not retired yet.. although not working?

Just checking...

Thanks JB.

I am a director, as you said, and am paying the social insurance. If I get nothing from the government if I lose all business then what do I get for paying the insurance? Don't get me wrong, I don't mind paying it (same as the UK), and I didn't actually think anyone gets any money if they lost their job here, just wondering what it covers.

Cheers

Crivens:
The reason why the employees pay the social insurance is to cover redundancy or the contact ends so they have 6 months to look for work.

but if the employee decide to walk out your leave that job then they wont get a penny. the social insurance will say you left a perfectly good job.

with your situation you are legally required to pay the social insurance, best thing I can sud-just is have a word with your accountant and see what he/she has to say about this matter.

there was 2 cases where 2 directors tried to claim and were denied this, but I don't know why?

For all the posts that I have made have not or neither been nasty towards you. but the comment you have made and I will quote:

i think it was a bit uncalled for.

but I will answer your question,
Cyprus does not do insurance Stamp like in the UK, if you want to visit the social insurance dept and ask them about, they will more than likely take your money but I don't think you get anything back from it.

things are done different here as far as work is concerned
and by the way I am not a Sir.

As long as I know it's a legal requirement then fine. Bit strange how it probably doesn't give anything back to me though. I thought perhaps it helped pay for hospitals or somesuch.

Oh Dear - Misunderstands!!! It was actually A COMPLIMENT - I was so (Yes really and truly) genuinely impressed and suprised at the firm clear insight and knowledge base you were coming from - hence the ref to sub Govt offices etc.. and the further post was just an extension of that really...

Reminds me of many many years ago when I has an absolute passion as a school girl for a young man for over a year.. I decided to finally really push the boat out and find and send a valentine card to him... spent hours pouring over one that I thought was discreet and subtle (as you do...) finally selected and sent one with a picture of a monkey in a school boy cap and tie and the caption read "I like you cos your different"... fortunately I hadn't signed it.. anyway I went off to the bowling alley expecting him to be all excited and wondering who the admirer was and (yep) he was absolutely FURIUS and convinced someone had it in for him and he was threatening to do all sorts to the sender - none of which was romantic!! So please accept my explanation.. if you knew me you would understand... certainly did not mean anything horrid at all!! I never ever admitted I had sent it - I was mortified!! :bawling:

Yeah, that is the problem with online text. There is only so much you can convey through words and smileys without spelling out exactly how you feel. The amount of times I have got into arguments because of something perfectly innocent is amazing.

Hello Aphrodite 18

I am sorry I did misunderstand, I though you were a bloke having a pop at me so I bit back. so no hard feelings!!

When I first came to Cyprus, I didn't realise it was a man's Island and being a business woman on a man's Island was very hard work and still is today.

for the first 2 years doing business with male Cypriots was bloody hard, they used to ignore me, push past me, even spit on me they refused to do business with me because I was a woman,

anyway I took this shit for 2 year and one day I bit back and stood up for myself, I wouldn't say it was easy from there on, but things did get better, and now after 10 years I am their best friend, and you know why because I wasn't going anyway, I stuck at it.

So everything I know, I found out the hard way, No one told me where to go and who to see about things,

Living in Cyprus today as far as I am concerned is easy, compared to 10 years ago.

HI Again.. and thank you for the above JB. I have been here almost 2 years - so still learning/adjusting to the cultural differences and as you say they are many.. I don't know where you are or what kind of business you are in but I would like to think one of the days we may get to have coffee and compare notes .. even do business!! I wish you well whatever and again the information you gave was very useful and I am sure valued by everyone who read it. Thank you...glad things have looked up for you 2!!
