Never been conned unwillingly!!!!
Have lived by your conclusion that you never give more than you can afford to lose and never expect it back rule from day one. Gave my eldest brother £500 once to "get his jewelry back" from the pawnbrokers. I knew very well that it would be spent on drugs and booze. We have not talked about it until recently. He never had the nerve to ask me for more and is now on the mend. It took twenty years but guilt is a good medicine and an apology a good cleanser.

That should be the rule of thumb when ever you "gamble" with money.
It worked for me, every time I went to Las Vegas.
It still didn't make the pain of loosing, any easier.
