Yes...I too remember calling the glass part of the kerosine lamp "fanoz"...
Isn't it funny Deniz to think that both of us were born in a village without electricity and running water (in our case)???I also remember my grandfather being the first person in the village to buy a radio...Half of the village would gather under our window in the evening news time, in mid to late 50s, listening to the news from that one radio which would be placed strategically on the window sill...And us children, infront of the open fire inside being told giant and dragon stories by our grandmother...soon to be replaced by EOKA and TMT horror stories... :(

Yes Bir Kibrisli, the water!!. I do remember the fights at the only water fountain (sokak cesmesi). The women of the village queing all day in the summers heat waiting for a few drops of water. and the ensuing "cesme fights" (Fountain fights). They were serious. Often the moukhtar had to be called to sort them out. In the days of no electricity and obviously no TV, what entertainment for us kids. Lot of steam used to be released. The next day the antagonist use to say their Kallimeras and gunaydins as if nothing ever happened.

I just checked but there's nothing new from you Deniz, maybe you forgot to put a message title and assumed that it got sent! Have a look in your "outbox" to see what got sent. :)
